Manufacturer Description
Panasonic's new Lumix DMC-LS80 digital camera features advanced, yet easy-to-use settings that help every type of digital photographer take great photos. Encased in a compact design and powered by AA batteries, the LS80 offers convenience and increased usability. With a newly-developed Lumix DC Vario lens system, 3x optical zoom and 8.1-megapixel resolution, the LS80 is feature-rich and user-friendly digital camera, all at an affordable price.
At the core of the DMC-LS80's easy-to-use operation is a comprehensive system of intelligent technologies that operate within the camera automatically, without any extra effort from the user. The Panasonic Lumix LS80 integrates four distinct features aimed at making it easy to capture perfect images.
Another new intuitive technology of the LS80 includes the Intelligent LCD, which means the brightness of the LCD automatically adjusts as the ambient light level changes. With the Intelligent LCD, which comes with 230,000-dot high resolution, images are clear, bright and easy to see -- regardless whether it is day or night; inside or outside.
Panasonic DMC-LS80K Highlights
Mega O.I.S. Gyrosensors detect hand-shake and an Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.) lens system shifts to compensate, preventing hand-shake from creating a blurry image and instead, providing a clear and crisp photo.
Intelligent ISO With this feature, the digital camera can determine if the photo subject is moving and change ISO setting and shutter speed accordingly, thus enabling a blur-free photo.
Auto Macro The LS80 automatically switches to the Macro setting when in close proximity to the photo subject, ideal for those extreme close-up shots.
Quick AF With the Quick AF (Auto Focus) system, the LS80 will focus on the photo subject without the user needing to press the shutter button, producing the fastest shutter speed by minimizing the AF time.
Venus Engine III processor High-quality, high-performance image processing with the Venus Engine III. With its multi-task image processing capability, the Venus Engine III boasts outstanding response time. Shutter release time lag is as short as 0.005 second. In the consecutive shooting mode, it is possible to shoot at 2.5 frames per second in full resolution; and in High-Speed Burst shooting mode, the LS80 fires off an incredible 5.5 shots per second. Also, with unlimited consecutive shooting, the user can snap photos continuously until the SD Memory Card is full.
High-definition compatible With the Lumix LS80, consumers are able to take 1920x1080 pixel photos, ideal for viewing on wide-screen (16:9) High Definition televisions. The complete Panasonic Viera line of Plasma and LCD HDTVs comes equipped with an internal SD card slot, so viewing digital photos is as easy as taking the SD card out of the LS80 and inserting it into the front of the Panasonic Viera.
Video recording In addition to recording standard VGA (640 x 480), the DMC-LS80 can also record WVGA (848 x 480) motion pictures at 30 frames per second. Fitting a wide-screen HDTV perfectly, these wide-aspect motion images make for impressive viewing.

Great simple camera
I researched and found this camera for my wife. She is not technologically oriented so I needed one that was simple yet took excellent pictures. This is it. So many features and the automatic settings are so intelligent. It is must have with image stabilization. Now, no pictures get blurred. It also has regular batteries that I replaced with rechargeable ones. She was thrilled at receiving it and the ease of using it. Panasonic did a great job. I bought a more advanced model for myself. My Lumix DMC-TZ3 model is great also.
Great value, hardy little camera
I bought this camera when I was in Anchorage, AK in the middle of winter to take along to the Iditarod race. I didn't want to take my Nikon DSLR as I was going to be volunteering, therefore I didn't know what to expect as far as accommodations for my things. I was glad I made the purchase, let me tell you.
It has a compact design, but it is weighty and lacks protrusions other than the feature knob at the top. This is key to keep from things breaking off with normal use. I've dropped this camera several times and it has not broken once! When I took it to the aforementioned Iditarod race, I fell on it (long story) and it suffered no ill effects. I, however, did!
That was over a year ago, and the camera is still going strong. The functions are easy to use and even though it is an 8 mp, there aren't a whole lot of unnecessary bells and whistles to it. Which is good, since I hate seeing pretentious point-and-shoots touted with attributes that only someone using a DSLR should be using. There is simply no comparison between the two as far as quality, depth and focus.
But, if you're looking for a cheaper, well-built camera to carry in your purse or pocket, this is the camera for you. My great-grandpa always said Lumix lenses were the best, and he was right.
My only gripe is having to use AA batteries. I always try to get cameras with battery packs, but I was in a bind and yada yada. It sucks the power out of those pretty quickly. But considering I was outside for 8 hours in 10 degree weather, the batteries held up well enough to take quite a few pictures and videos.
And a note on the videos, there is no microphone in the camera, so you get some great quality silent movies. Can't have everything I guess.
Nice camera
Nice camera at a good price. As someone who needs a camera for leisure/personal purposes, this takes nice pictures and is easy to use. Also, we were able to get a memory card from another Amazon.com seller for around $10, which was well below the retail price...am guessing that this has to do with the camera and accessories being just barely out the "new" model range, but something from a season or two ago.
So I don't have a ton of experience with cameras, but I am pleased with this purchase. And the seller offered a great deal by selling a NEW product that was less than some of the used/refurbished products listed. AND I was able to get an additional $30 off by using my NEW Amazon Visa!
