Buy used from: $2.39 Tetris is the only game that I will assume EVERYONE has played. The idea is so simple yet people couldn't stop playing. Any puzzle game that exist today owes Tetris a HUGE thank you. Gameboy (the most popular hand-held system ever!) also owes Tetris a thank you for boosting its sales and popularity.

Buy used from: $4.19 Street Fighter II wasn't the first fighting game (hence the II!), but it was the first to create a deep fighting experience. Thanks to Street Fighter II, fighting games were a dime a dozen in the mid/late 90s (for the better or for the worse).

Buy used from: $7.64 So this is what an adventure game looks like; solving puzzles, finding secrets, using a map. Although it influenced a lot of games, no other franchise has yet to capture the adventure genre like Zelda.

Buy used from: $8.69 Golden Eye brought first person shooters to consoles (they were reserved for computer gaming until then). Image a world without Halo, Call of Duty or Medal of Honor. That's how it would be if it weren't for 007.

Buy new: $39.98 / Used from: $1.68 Sure there were extreme sports games before Pro Skater, but they weren't that fun. Tony Hawk opened the door for skating, BMX, snow boarding and several other extreme sports in the video game world.

Buy new: $29.98 / Used from: $7.68 The game that taught us standard controllers wouldn't fully capture the experience of rhythm gaming. Maybe Guitar Hero would be around if DDR never existed, but I doubt it.

 | SONY PLAYSTATION 2 GRAND THEFT AUTO III
Buy new: $250.00 / Used from: $0.99 Free will! That's what GTA III delivered. If you don't want to do a mission, then don't. Punch a cop, save lives in an ambulance or commit mass murder, it's up to you. So many other games have tried to copy the "sandbox" game play of the GTA series, but without as much success.

Buy used from: $7.63 Although it was not the first "scary" game, Resident Evil defined the survival horror genre and opened the flood gates for countless other survival horror games. The Silent Hill and Fatal Frame franchises owe their popularity (if not their existence) to Resident Evil.
