Complete, No-nonsense Coverage of Contemporary Professional Photography
PDN aims its coverage squarely at both aspiring and accomplished professional photographers, and is without peer. Over the year it spotlights a seemingly endless variety of photographic specialties. Each issue carries a how-it's-done feature explaining one photographer's approach to a particular lighting challenge, complete with diagrams. Equipment reviews are impartial, and it appears that the reviewers are under no obligation to either promote or go easy on any products, including those made by the magazine's advertisers. In addition to equipment and techniques, the magazine explores the business side of photography. Photography today is about cameras, computers, and code--all three arenas get covered well. Writing is clear and succinct. Unlike other photo magazines, there are no puff pieces.
an industry standard
pdn is the most important photography based magazine for industry professionals to date. pdn is where many photo editors, creative directors and professional photographers go to find new talent and keep on top of industry news, changes and innovations. Any professional working photographer or photo editor should have a subscription to pdn.
Top professional publication
I recently started receiving PDN, despite problems I had with subscription service (and still do, read at the end). This magazine is best suited for the people really interested in professional side of photography, but enthusiasts will find the mag's regular competitions very inspiring, although most of them can be seen on the PDN website for free. Subscription gives you access to exclusive online content, which is a nice bonus.
About the subscription problems:
I subscribed to four magazines at once through Amazon, than about three weeks later I had to quickly change my (US) mailing address. I have asked Amazon subscription service to update the adress for all the subscriptions, which they acknowledged as done the next day. Three weeks later, I contacted each magazine individually to check if the new address was on file. NONE of them had the data updated and one magazine never even received the order (still got charged for it)! So two magazines changed the address, but PDN refused to do so since the subscription was purchased through one Ebsco company. I have contacted both Amazon and Ebsco about this and I'm still waiting for any results.
In the meantime, any edition sent to my old address will be lost, plus many magazines take about 8 weeks to update their mailing labels, so after the first issue I received, I won't see more PDN editions for quite a while... Quite a mess, I shop a lot at Amazon and find this kind of customer service unaceptable.
