Album Description
EMI Classics is proud to present Angela Gheorghiu: My Puccini, a stunning homage to the legend of Puccini featuring the finest arias from his best-loved operas, sung by the leading Puccini soprano of our time. This compilation features tracks from Angela's extensive discography on EMI Classics, including several collaborations with her husband, tenor Roberto Alagna.

Accompanying the CD is a special bonus DVD of previously unreleased material, including stunning footage of Angela singing Puccini, as well as an interview of her speaking about the composer.

About the Artist
In demand all over the world and having won a staggering collection of major awards, including two Gramophone and Diapason d'Or awards, the US Critics' Award, the Cæcilia Prize in Belgium, and the prize from the Deutsche Schallplattenkritik, Angela has earned her place as one of the best sopranos of her generation. In 2001, she won Classical Artist of the Year at the Classical Brit Awards.

Customer Reviews

A lovely singer at her touching best5
For me, this second Puccini collection from Gheorgiu is preferable to her earlier (2004) program from Milan with Anton Coppola. For one thing, we get to hear both her and Alagna in best young voice from their appealing La Boheme and La Rondine complete sets -- the latter put them on the map as a glamorous young operatic couple. Second, the singer doesn't over extend her vocal abilities as she did in the first collection by attempting the murderous "In questa reggia" from Turandot, an aria totally impplausible for her lyric-spinto voice. Even Tosca is a stretch, but what reigning diva (as surely Gheorghiu is) hasn't wanted to prove that she can sing anything? Her creamy voice and soft-edged attack are perfeclty suited to almost everything she essays here, from Manon to Cio-Cio San. All that's lacking is the last ounce of dramatic involvement of the kind we hear from Tebaldi, Callas, and Price.

In the end, Puccini may well be Gheorghiu's best composer, as this touching album vividly demonstrates.

My Puccini5
Absolutely beautiful! The Wall Street Journal article which led to my purchase of the CD was right on the mark.
