Customer Reviews
So True.....
Chicken Soup once again serves up a heartwarming helping of feline "tales" to make us laugh, cry and nod in complete agreement with the authors. A wonderful page-turner. The perfect gift for the cat lover or yourself!
Best read with a cat in your lap
My story, "The Emperor's Blessing," is featured on page 351 of this brand new book. However, I can say without bias (okay, maybe a little) that if you love cats and love stories about cats, this is an excellent book. The stories range from the amusing such as "The Cat Delivers the Goods" wherein an otherwise well-behaved feline decides to relieve himself on the shoe of an annoying pastor, to "CATaclysmic Encounter" where the frustrated author is stuck in traffic and witnesses a holocaust survivor's complete bliss as he feeds hordes of cats. There are some really heart-wrenching stories, too. I had to battle tears more than once, though the greatest concentration of such stories is in the "Learning to let go" section at the back (including my own story).
In addition to the 101 stories, there are also quotes from famous people regarding cats and funny comics by Mark Parisi of Off the Mark.
Cats have a lot to teach us, and this anthology covers the gamut.
Eager to read more
Yes, there really is a "What I learned from the cat" book despite the fact that this book cover site shows the cover for "What I learned from the dog." I have not read the whole book, but what I have read makes me want to read more. Many don't think of cats as teachers, but clearly there are lessons to be learned from all animals.
There are a few stories where, for humor sake, the cats are described more in human terms than as cats, but it gets the point across. The authors still learned something from the cats.
Most stories include the close relationship with cats, the heartwarming moments, as well the lessons. Saved by a Stray clearly shows the saving grace of a cat's love, a love "cat people" will recognize even if they lived easier lives than the girl in that story.
Like other Chicken Soup for the Soul books, these are uplifting stories with a variety of emotions and themes -- a little something for every mood.
Any cat lover will love this book and recognize the attitudes and amusing behaviors of our purry friends.
