Real-Estate for Today's World4
"Never judge a book by its cover." This old adage has never been more true than for Karen Vieira's new how-to book, Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers.

The book's cornflower blue cover and fluorescent title font misrepresent the work as something akin to a get-rich-quick scheme or a "Real Estate for Dummies" walkthrough. Admittedly, I was turned off by the look and also by the knowledge that Vieira isn't a broker nor an agent, herself. She graduated in microbiology and lists herself as an entrepreneur - albeit one with a vested interest in flipping properties. The most outstanding qualification I could see to have her pen this book was that her husband is, according to the biographical information, an "Internet marketing guru."

My father is an independent real estate broker, so coming from a background of self-run businesses and real estate, I was understandably skeptical. In reality however, Vieira presents a compelling case. Her statistics about websites, sales, customer needs, wants, and ultimately how establishing a successful web presence will transfer to a more successful business are sound. She uses testimonials from successful agents around the country, and she has obviously done her research. The fact that she is not a broker or agent seems to help, rather than hinder. She is an outsider looking in, clear-headed in her criticism of the current market practices, and she makes fresh suggestions that have worked with her own business ventures and others.

The book is also easy to ingest, with clearly marked chapters and subsections that highlight each new topic. The end of each chapter holds a review of the most important material in case you missed it. Another helpful point is that she doesn't ignore the real estate agent or broker who would like to get their hands dirty and design their web presence from the ground up, instead of hiring outside help. Though she cautions against overloading oneself and offers a myriad of tips for finding web professionals, Vieira also gives all the tools and know-how needed to create and maintain successful real estate blog oneself. She explains how to optimize your html code, online advertising and search engine results, and she does so with succinctness.

I left the book impressed and intrigued. From branding to selling houses with eBay to hiring cheaper website help overseas, Vieira leaves no stone unturned when it comes to defining oneself in an increasingly online world. Though it runs a little long at 274 pages, Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers is a comprehensive, well-written book that will be certain to teach a few tricks to even the savviest salespeople, and with a handy index, it makes a nice reference tool to keep on the shelf, as well.

Not Just for Real Estate Professionals4
Although Karen F. Viera targets real estate professionals in "Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers," she has really given all business owners an outstanding guide to the use of the internet in developing a robust business and an active and engaged clientele. In "Online Marketing Techniques," Ms. Viera very persuasively makes the case for the use of websites, blogging and other on-line vehicles as necessary elements for any marketing strategy and she presents those elements in a methodical, easy to read fashion that is never condescending to her readers. Indeed, relatively complex internet marketing techniques such as "search engine optimization" are explained in a way that will allow even the most technologically challenged reader to apply Ms. Viera's lessons to the everyday task of developing a business.

Although "Online Marketing Techniques" offers a comprehensive examination of most aspects of on-line marketing and the use of both the internet and more traditional media in the development of a brand and a business, there is one glaring omission that Ms. Viera should address in her first revision of the work. Specifically, Ms. Viera fails to adequately explore the marketing power of social networking websites. Admittedly, she does reference Facebook, MySpace and similar sites in passing, but those types of social networks, along with Twitter and the rest of the ever-expanding universe of social media sites, deserve at the very least their own chapter, if not an entire section of the work. It is simply not enough to mention that marketing requires the use of Facebook, MySpace and other such sites. Effective use should be fully explained.

Ms. Viera's treatment of social networking sites notwithstanding, "Online Marketing Techniques for Real Estate Agents and Brokers" remains an excellent primer on the use of the internet and traditional media in the development of a cohesive marketing strategy - both for real estate professionals and for anyone who wants to develop their business to its fullest potential. The Internet is not going away any time soon, but businesses that fail to follow Ms. Viera's advice may very well find themselves unable to compete in the digital age.

Real Estate Agents Learn How To Market Yourselves Online 4
In this book, Karen Vieira does a terrific work in explaining the phenomenal opportunity that real estate agents and brokers have to market themselves to their customers through the internet. The book goes through why exactly it is so very important that those in real estate use the internet as a marketing tool. Vieira talks about the various areas where you can market yourself and your company online and lays out how doing this can substantially increase your business' profit and grow your own salary.

Properly branding your business and yourself on the internet is well detailed in the book. This is really interesting and informative because it makes you think about how you want to be viewed by your current and potential customers. Online directories are also discussed. Where to find these directories and how to become a part of one are both explained. Vieira goes through which particular directories you should concern yourself with and which ones you should not bother with.

Additionally, there is a wonderful section on search engines and how important they are when marketing yourself online. Vieira does a great job in explaining the best way to put your website at the top of each and every the search engine's list. The book describes how to ensure that your competition does not sit in front of you when you are searched on the internet. There is also great information on how to set up your website and how frequently your website should be updated. Furthermore, web site slogans are discussed. Every possible aspect of selling yourself as a real estate agent or broker is gone through in this book. I found that the author's did a great job clearly explaining the topics discussed and the information presented was extremely helpful. All who are in real estate and wish to expand their business or better utilize the internet should definitely read this book.
