Editorial Reviews
Review
This is an update of a color atlas/text for gastrointestinal pathology in adult and pediatric patients last published in 1997.
The book aspires to be a comprehensive resource that covers the normal anatomy and histology, epidemiology, and the clinical, pathologic, and prognostic features of all gastrointestinal diseases, thereby eliminating the need to consult multiple sources to gain an understanding. For the most part, these lofty objectives are met.
This will be useful to pathologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, internists, and surgeons interested in gastrointestinal diseases. The book integrates pathologic analyses of specimens with anatomic, clinical, radiologic, pathophysiologic, and microbiologic information to give readers in any specialty or at any level of training a clear understanding of each disease process. Dr. Fenoglio-Preiser is an internationally renowned pathologist who has specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of GI disease for more than 30 years.
Chapters cover non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions of each anatomic site as well as disorders affecting multiple anatomic sites. This edition includes updates on mesenchymal tumors, motility disorders, and inflammatory bowel disease as well as information on molecular genetics in various disorders. Also, it pays more attention to cytology and endomucosal resection specimens due to the emergence and evolution of imaging and endoscopic techniques. The plentiful illustrations include gross and microscopic photographs, drawings, diagrams, and radiographs and there are many tables for quick reference. A companion website offers the fully searchable text and an image bank. While the tables and text are outstanding, numerous microscopic photographs are pale, out of focus, and substandard for a book of this caliber.
Overall, this is a fantastic, all encompassing book of gastrointestinal pathology. The new edition is necessary to incorporate new molecular genetic information, prognostic and therapeutic information, and imaging and endoscopic techniques. Except for the poor quality of some of the histopathologic images, this is an impressively complete resource of gastrointestinal pathology.
Weighted Numerical Score: 91 - 4 Stars!

GI Path
This book is one of the standard texts in GI Path. The text and tables are good, but there are many photographs that are just way substandard for a book like this. Out of focus, weird colors, too dark to bright etc. I am reading through Chapter 3 A few exaples are Fig 3.2; 3.5; 3.18; 3.31; 3.34; 3.40 A; 3.41; 3.42
Best book in TGI Pathology
This is the best and comprehensive book in gastrointestinal pathology. It has a lot of excellent quality gross pictures. The chapters about Idiopathic Inflammatory Intestinal Disease and Motility Disorders are helpful and very well written. It has a lot of diagrams and tables and the text covers every topic that you need in anatomic pathology practice. A must have reference in the pathologist bookshelf.
Exhaustive GI path text
I have now had this book for about a month, and I have found that the tables and text are first rate. The images are good to good enough. I would say that this is going to continue to be a heavily used tome on my shelf!!! Well worth the price.
