New religious collar!5
What can I say about this collar? That it works, miracles.

It's one piece, instead of a box that hangs off of a regular nylon collar, ensuring contact. It also has a right fit test to make sure it's doing it's job. It's waterproof, even allowing the dog to swim with it on. No, on/off buttons on the collar itself, it turns on/off like a tv remote. Using the remote, which comes with a lanyard, you can be far from your dog, which is let's face it, when they tend to misbehave anyway.

There is 9 levels, and a boost that let's you up it by 2 for that moment. There is also a timeout safety feature in case you hold the button down for 10 seconds or longer. The best part is the tone button. The manual says you can use it for a reward or warning, just not the two. That would just confuse Fido. My dog learned quickly that the tone means a warning. That way, if I press that button, she acknowledges it, and stops the behavior straight away. This also means there's no correction after awhile, since the dog learns what comes after the tone. Unless you use it for a reward sound. Then I guess it's more like clicker training.

So, why is it the new religious collar?
Because it makes a believer out of the dog. And, since the dog sees the behavior as getting a correction, and not you giving it, it seems to make training quicker. Because of course you don't want your dog afraid of you.

Now, I know there are people who think it's inhumane to use a collar like this. Personally we tried the citronella collar, and I wish I'd saved my money. It didn't do squat for our Doberman. I think this collar is more humane than having a dog put down, which is exactly what people do when they find they can't handle their unruly, aggressive dogs.

Innotech remote trainer3
I have been happy with the Innotech remote training collar. My 9 mo old golden retrieve seems to be responding to it well. My primarily complaint is that the remote isn't rechargable like the collar is. The battery door on the remote isn't the friendliest design. I have already managed to break the tabs on it while changing the battery. The screw still holds the cover on; however, the remote can now no longer be considered very "waterproof".

Advanced Remoter Trainer4
I have had an older TriTronics remote collar that came with a flashlight sized remote. I have had a TriTronics Sportsman 50 that came with a remote a little bigger than a pack of cigarettes. Both of those came with basically one button on the remote control. The IUT-300 has a remote little bigger than the average car remote. It also has 9 levels set from the remote as well as a tone only option and a boost button for dealing with strong distractions. With the purchase of another collar it can control two dogs. The collar is the lightest, slimmest one I've seen on any trainer. A training DVD using escape, or avoidance, training is included. All components appear to be of high quality construction. In a large open field it easily met the claimed 300 yard range. Buildings and trees will of course cut the range considerably. Our 85lb mixed breed puppy is wearing it now to acclimate to it. In about a week I will show him what else it can do. I only gave it 4 stars because it comes in a cardboard box with no storage case or box. I put it in a small camera case but think the manufacturere could have at least included a zippered pouch. Based on my limited experience with the IUT-300 I think it should be an excellent choice for pet and companion dog owners that don't need greater range.

After six short training sessions over two days the puppy is controllable off the leash. He has taken off a couple of times but comes back when reminded he can still be corrected. He is far from trained but at least now he can get some exercise in the yard.
