Amazon.com Product Description
| Inspired by LifeHammer, the acclaimed automotive escape tool, ResQMe is a revolutionary handheld rescue tool that amazingly provides drivers and passengers with the same level of confidence and results as its larger cousin in the event of a life-threatening entrapment incident in your vehicle. Ultra small, yet designed to provide the instant and easy ability to cut through jammed seat belts and shatter side windows when the need arises, it is the inexpensive, portable power that every car should have onboard in the event of an emergency.
Entrapment, the inability to escape a vehicle in the event of an emergency, is a very real threat to motorists. According to the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics last publication, there are over 42,000 crash fatalities each year. That is almost 1 death every 12 minutes. Of these, an estimated 500 people died while helplessly trapped inside their vehicles. Along with water related incidents, a potential factor in this disturbing number of emergencies is the growing prevalence of power windows that can become jammed due to submersion or fire. As a result of these facts the demand for high-performance automobile safety equipment is on the rise, with ResQMe fast becoming the most convenient option in vehicles all across North America. With ResQMe drivers can be confident that they will be able to cut through safety belts and smash car windows, when every second counts. How Does it Work? Features:

Worst Case Scenario
Imagine giving this device to your 16 year old. Imagine he encounters circumstances to put it to use. Now imagine it fails to work. How would you feel about your gift?
I ordered 6 of these as Christmas stocking-stuffers. Fortunately, my 16 year old tested the glass breaking function of his on a piece of scrap hard plastic.
No matter how hard we tried we couldn't get the pin to 'pop'. The barrel simply moved in and out with no effect.
I handed him another. The pin popped as it should but then remained stuck in the extended position. In actual use that would have meant one try to break the glass and then the device would have been useless.
I tested the remaining 4 and they did, in fact, function as advertised and demonstrated. I don't think a device like this ought to have what basically amounts to a 33% failure rate on the 6 I purchased.
If you buy them, TEST them. Then consider installing the full-sized hammer as a back-up.
Hope I Never Have to Use This
Purchased as a "just in case" and I hope I'm never in a situation where I will need to use it. But at least I feel safer knowing it's there.
I've only tested this on pieces of wood and plexiglass, and it works as it should. This tool was also highlighted on an episode of "MythBusters" on the Discovery Channel in a submerged car myth. They demonstrated how a tool just like this one and the "LifeHammer" both worked perfectly on the side window of a submerged car. So I'm sold on this tool's ability.
This will work.....
This thing will work. Back on my days on the fire dept. we used a spring loaded center punch (automatic center punch) to break out car windows. You don't have to swing it like the hammer type so you don't have to worry about follow through and hitting a person on the inside of the car. It will work best if you use it on one of the corners of the window. This thing works on the same principle as the center punch. It will not work for the front windshield, it is laminated. It will break the front window but the laminate holds the window together. The seat belt cutter is a nice thing to have also. It seems like most of you folks want this for water safety. Remember one thing, when your car hits the water it is like hitting a brick wall. Anything in the car is going to go flying around. This thing is designed to stay on your keys till you need it and you just pull it off. If you can just pull it off, I would say the force of the impact COULD send this thing flying. FYI, even a plain old screwdriver can break your windows in no time. Just lay the screwdriver flat against the glass (best if done on one of the corners). Press the handle of the screwdriver with the palm of your hand then grab the tip of the screwdriver with your other hand, pull it back and let go. It will snap the tip of the screwdriver into the tempered glass and shatter it in little pieces.
