Noted scientist and conservationist Goodall provides listeners with stories about her life and her experiences studying chimpanzees in Africa. She talks about her first exposure to animals at a farm near her home and how the book Dr. Doolittle helped crystallize her desire. Later Goodall comments on her first trip to the continent and how meeting Dr. Louis Leakey led to her life's work, living among the animals, learning their behaviors, and bringing that information to the rest of the world. Though this tape starts out as an autobiography, it focuses mostly on the work of the Goodall Institute and "Roots and Shoots," organizations created to encourage the protection of animals and their habitats. The author reads her own tale and seems sort of detached even when discussing her interest in saving the world's animals. The book also lacks depth, glossing over Goodall's life and telling her story simply, which could make this tedious listening for adults. For public and school libraries. Excellent book.
The book was purchased for a project learning about Jane Goodall. Unfortunately for me, I didn't look closely enough before buying the book to realize it was written for young readers. Even though it wasn't appropriate for my college level project, I read through it anyway and found it to be an excellent book.

I love true stories
I sent this to youth centers where many girls need strong female figure (I sent other things for the boys).Goodman is an amazing person.

Great adult book!
I am an avid fan of jan goodall and her works. this book was very good on everything from descriptions to examples and issues that have faced chimpanzees, they are facing, and they will face. This book also delves into her personal life and explains tid bits along the way about why she is who she is and much much more. Only down side is that thier is not alot of pictures, would give five stars if would have included more pictures, but what can you say for the price?
