Customer Reviews
A delightful way to visit (or revisit) the land of Narnia!!
I loved the Narnia series as a child and bought this for my children (ages 5 and 9) as an introduction, hoping they would eventually want to read the books, and wanting to keep them occupied on a long car trip. We were hooked from the beginning! We ended up carrying the CD's from the car to the house and back again - unable to "put them down." The actors did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life and the narration filled in the gaps perfectly. I was worried when I purchased this set that time considerations would force the producers to leave bits of the book out - not so! I would recommend this audio series for anyone - whether they be a Chronicles of Naria fan or not - though some of it may be a little scary for very young children. A radio production is so much more enjoyable to listen to than a book being read.
Enjoyable series = Enjoyable radio production
The chronicles of Narnia, a timeless classic. These cd's of this radio theatre production of The Chronicles of Narnia are very very enjoyable. They've taken wonderful stories and did a very good job in turning into a radio theatre, leaving very little out, and I mean very little. I read a few of these books when I was younger, remembering bits and pieces, then I listened to these CD's and really enjoyed them. So I thought, I'll go back and read again, (since the book versions are usually better). What I found was that the creators of this production did a masterful job catching every little piece of the story and developing all the characters just as well as the books themselves did, I was really quite surprised.
I also like what this production added to the stories that you don't get when you read them. With this version, you get the thunderous voice of Aslan and his prodigious roar, adding some power. You get sounds and music that add to the story. You get a very good narrator who grows on you as you journey through the seven books (there's something about his voice, when he describes what is going on in the story you get a very very vivid picture, it's quite wonderful). You get a very relaxed way to enjoy a very good story. The convenience of this set is what I really enjoy. I am a pizza delivery driver, and I listen to a lot of music while I work. This series gave me a very good break from all that and kept me on my toes in the store waiting anxiously to leave so I could find out what was going to happen to Eustice or Jill or any of the many characters throughout the series.
This production is something you could listen to over and over again. I'm sure that if you're reading this review you have some familiarity with the books or else you'd be reading a review for the books themselves, so I dont need to praise the greatness of the stories themselves, which are very very good. Overall, these great stories plus a very well done audio theatre production equals a CD set I promise you would enjoy. I know me and my whole family have. Thank you for your time and always remember, don't take my word for it, go find out for yourselves, you won't be disappointed.
an excellent choice
Finally, something that the children AND adults like to hear in the van! After hearing a The Magicians nephew a few times, I had a choice of listening to the tape, or the children taking parts and reciting it themselves when we got in the van. Something that pleases my toddler, my teen and myself! This is high quality telling of a wonderful story that reflects the gospel.
