Wonderful game4
much better than the GBA version of this game. It's a wonderful buy the sprites are beautiflully redrawn and the screen is less crowded than the old one as well as plenty of extras. It's a stratagy RPG though so it requires some thinking to play, but thus can keep you busy for a long time. Great story and characters too.

Yggdra Union is a refreshing change of pace.5
Yggdra Union is one of those games that is both amazing, and incredibly lacking. The story is great, not-so-new but with enough twists and turns that make the game really enjoyable.

The game is harder than most - and it's not even ON hard mode until after you beat it the first time. Chances are that even the most experienced player will need a strategy guide in order to find all the items (in which no clues are given to their location) and the characters. Without knowing, you could easily pass up 3 party members, and murder another. The weapon affinities are a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, you're in for intense battles and amazing game play.

The game utilizes cards as hidden doors to skills, and most gamers have come to believe that a game with 'cards' is akin to games like Yu-Gi-Oh. This is certainly not the case, as each card gives a person a hidden skill to use against their opponent; many of which are the deciding factor in a battle. Cards abilities range from healing to setting enemies on fire, to cursing, and require certain criteria in order to be used.

The characters are easily lovable, each with their own personalities and history. No two playable characters are the same in terms of class, though they can use the same weapon but be a different gender. For example, Rosary is a Witch and Roswell is a Necromancer. Both use staves, but Rosary has the fire element and Roswell has darkness.

Healing is difficult in Yggdra Union. Character's have "morale" for what would be known otherwise as "HP", which often must be replenished after a battle. You usually cannot heal morale IN battle unless you use a specific card or equip an item, but that card can only be used at a certain time. You must choose between keeping an item which may potentially be good for a character, or using it to recover morale.

When compared to the GBA original, the PSP version is better. It has better sound, graphics, added scenes, more characters, more items, and every character has a voice. What is lacking, and could have been improved upon, is the sprites. While they are more heavily detailed, some sprites are simply recolored. For example, the fencer Russell is primarily purple with distinct features and a different costume than the fencer class. His sprite, however, is the basic fencer sprite with purple hair and clothing. His picture in status mode is also that of a basic fencer. I hoped that all the characters would have been given full body art by now, but sadly most are waist up.

Regardless, I would recommend this game to any fan of strategy RPG's, or games in general. Be warned, this game is NOT in any way short and will require several hours of devotion. Many of the battles require trying again, but the plus side is that they have you thinking in ways you wouldn't normally. This game had me screaming at the screen in both joy and agitation, but it was completely worth it.

Ygddra Union Rocks.5
It's a GREAT strategy game. I like the card system, it's something different from games like Final Fantasy tactics, and is still somewhat the same.

The game runs great. I never get stuck in a loading screen or anything like that.

Voice acting isn't perfect, but I find it enjoyable. Really gets me more into the game than the GBA version could. :]

Graphics are adorable and well done.

Music is nice, somewhat memorable. I love the music that plays when you're attacking the enemy with everything you've got!

If you like strategy games, this is a must-buy.
