The Meditation Timer will allow you to meditate, practice yoga, or conduct a therapy session without having to keep an eye on the clock. Its gentle gong will ease you into and out of your session, and the beautiful wood finish and organic shape will naturally blend into the environment. The meditation timer is built to the perfect proportions of the Kheops Pyramid of Gizah, which Feng Shui specialists consider a source of powerful energy, stability, and balance. The simple controls of the timer make it easy to set the desired time duration, start the timer, and then turn your focus toward your session. Simply turn the dial to one of the 8 fixed time settings and press the ON button. Twenty seconds later, three rings of the gong will signal the start of the session. The timer is completely silent until the end of the time set. Several soft taps of the gong signal the end of the session followed by three steady rings of the gong. The gong is a digital recording of a Gong Bowl realistically played over a high-quality speaker inside the timer. The Meditation Timer is about 5 inches square at the base - about the size of a CD/DVD - and just over 4 inches tall. NOTE: Time settings are fixed - only the 8 exact time settings are available.

Nice but way overpriced
Bought this in cherry a week ago. Nice gong, works well, but very cheesy for the money. Tiny black plastic buttons on the bottom seem so flimsy -- especially compared to the nice solid wood pyramid. I am afraid they will break! For this money, at least include the four batteries! The battery door is held on with two tiny metal screws that require a tiny Phillips Head screwdriver -- not the kind of thing you are likely to have -- just lucky my husband had one for his miniature train projects. I bought this because I wanted the nice gong sound but there is clearly a niche for someone who can offer a timer with a good sound for less money. I couldn't find one other than this one and am glad to have it but still can't get over the price!
Wonderful Meditation Timer
I would have rated this 5 stars except for the price. Even though it was expensive, it is a wonderful & attractive timer. I wanted something gentler than the kitchen timer I used to use, but quiet enough that it wouldn't wake up my husband the light sleeper in the next room. It has 2 volume settings, and the gentle gongs are perfect - it brings me gently out of meditation but my husband never hears a thing.
How did I live without it?
I use my Meditation Timer all the time and it's just wonderful -- the added benefit, I think, being that it signals the beginning of the session as well as the end. It gives you a few moments, after you set it, to get settled -- and the sound of the chimes is perfect for slowing you down, getting things started. My only complaint would be that it didn't look exactly as I'd expected. I ordered the varnished wood version, which in the the picture seems very rich and brown, when in fact the color is more in the orange family. It took me a while to get used to. But I am used to it now, and my only regret is that it's not smaller and easy to travel with, for I'd like to be able to take it with me when I go places. As it is, it seems to fragile, or the shape is too easy to damage, or something. I'll have to make do with the old egg timer on the road -- a sorry second.
