Great for what they are
I have purchased several of the LaCie Rugged All-Terrain 301371 500 GB FireWire800/FireWire400/USB 2.0 Portable Hard Disk for my business for system backups. These sleeves are great so I know which backup drive is for which internal drive (I have 4 internal drives). They fit and feel exactly like the orange sleeve that comes with these drives. They are very easy to fit onto the drive. You just stretch it over it. The only slight negative, for myself, is the grey/green colored one. I'm just not all that fond of that color but that is my personal preference.

Color should be a choice when you order the hard drive
Since I have more LaCie Rugged hard drives the sleeves in different colors make it easy to recognize which one is which. The color selection of the sleeve should be an option when you order the hard drive or at least one more sleeve should be included in the package since the Rugged series has premium pricing anyway.
The sleeves are OK the 3 star rating is because of the extra money that you have to pay to get them...

Not Just For Looks!
I am sure that there are people out there that would buy these based just on their looks after all there is nothing wrong with wanting a certain color for your HD. With that being said, these don't have just an aesthetic use as there are people like myself that use them for organizational purposes.

I am an architectural photographer and I use a lot of HD's for my job. I switched over to exclusively using portable HD's around 12 months ago and the bottom line is that these covers can be used to quickly identify particular HD's. This may not sound necessary but I assure you when your using 20-25 HD's at a time for particular jobs, Having certain HD's color coded like this can save you some time. This color coding has actually been so useful for me that I actually ordered 5 sets of these covers and actually spray painted them additional colors. If anyone else is interested in doing this, I actually spray painted the Aluminum and not the color band that runs around the drive. I simply taped off the color band and sprayed away. It took only 5 minutes and I now have 8 distinct colors for my Lacie drives.

The fact that these pop on and off with ease is huge as I file away a drive with the job file when a job is over and simply buy a new drive. This allows me to continue using the same colored cases with the new drives that I buy. When I file away a HD with a finished job file I simply put the orange case that it originally came with back on and use the colored cases on my new drives. I may not have described this very well but trust me, it works like a charm and it is extremely useful.

The bottom line - whether your using these for just changing the looks of your HD or using them for some organizational purpose, they are well worth the small additional cost. They are well made and are extremely easy to take on and off. Overall this is just another reason to buy Lacie's Rugged system of HD's as you cant find this simple yet extremely useful option with other portable HD systems out there. Those who have no need for it simply don't have to buy them.
