Wireless Mouse - There's Good News and Bad News
I needed a replacement mouse, since the battery door broke on the previous mouse - I was replacing a set of batteries every 5 days or so (good thing I use rechargeables).
The good news - Microsoft said the mouse would significantly reduce battery usage. They were correct; I'm still using the batteries that came with the mouse, and it's been over a month.
The bad news - this is very definitely a right-handed mouse. It's "ergonomic curves" won't work if you are left-handed, or if you, like I do, switch between hands to reduce carpal tunnel.

Nice, but not portable
The wireless mouse is nice, however I was looking for something more portable. The USB device that plugs into the computer is almost as large as the mouse itself effectively doubling what I have to carry. I would have appreciated it if the advertisement was a little more clear about all of the parts so that I could have purchased a different model.

Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 5000
An excellent mouse. This is my second cordless Microsoft mouse. The first cordless mouse I purchased, about a year ago, the Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse - Steel Blue, was the same shape and size as the 5000. Both units fit the hand exceedingly well. Both are easy to pick up and move around the pad with their concave sides. However the Microsoft Steal Blue did not track well. The cursor had the jitters, in that the cursor would not move in a smooth fluid motion.

The Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 5000 features High Definition Optical Technology, which apparently makes all the difference in the world compared to Steal Blue, which did not have this technology.
