Using either witchcraft, fairy dust or highly gifted engineers (we're not sure which), Apple has created an iPod Shuffle of an almost impossibly small size. Only slightly bigger than a U.S. quarter, this teensy-weensy device packs 2GB of Storage space. Enough for up to 480 of your favorite songs! Apple also attached a clip to the back of the Shuffle, so you can wear it anywhere for skip-free Music playback. Perfect for working out or just walking down the street. Unexpected Needle in a Haystack
At first, there a few things that I didn't like about the iPod shuffle (prior to buying, of course).
1) There isn't a screen, making it difficult for me to change to a song I happen to like at a certain time
2) It was too small in my opinion, both physically and as far as memory was concerned. I was used to my 40GB 3rd Gen Classic, so the thought of not being able to access all my music at the time I want to was something that only gave me dread.
However, on a whim when I got a bonus and when my roommate who has a shuffle told me how he liked it and that my concerns were unwarranted, I bought this little device. I was still skeptical, but most of my concerns are mostly gone.
Although the device is indeed small as far as memory wise comparatively, it stores more than enough if I listen on a normal basis. Additionally, on the occasion that I am listening while on the car, I don't want to be distracted by trying to select a song every few minutes (hence why I used to prefer listening to the radio). Being unable to do so is a disadvantage in most cases that I listen to music, but it's a blessing in disguise.
This device is small, but because of that, it's not cumbersome at all while exercising, driving, or almost any task. It also comes with a clip by itself, so one can position in most any position he or she desires.
I was also surprised by the battery time. I decided to not charge it until it ran out of batteries and kept it on from the instant I had it fully charged. It ran for a good two days, probably because of the lack of switching tracks and the lack of a backlit screen. I don't expect this battery life to last that long, since iPods are notorious for dying rechargeable batteries (but then again, all rechargeable batteries lose charge after every recharge). Apple products are perhaps a little overpriced at times, but for what it's worth, the iPod Shuffle is well worth the money in terms of quality, time, and its simplicity.
Handy little no frills hands-free device
I use my shuffle mostly when cleaning house, working out in the garden, mowing the lawn (a 3 hour task), and occasionally when relaxing after my chores are done. The 2 GB capability is more than enough for my average music needs and the handy clip feature allows me to tuck the shuffle safely inside my clothing (yes, to my bra) away from dust and dirt. I am able to work outside most of the day for several days with no battery shortages. After a few hours of wear, the ear buds become uncomfortable, also they do not block out the noise of the mower. I solved this by purchasing a bud designed to fit comfortably in smaller ears, which also allows me to listen to music when mowing.
The sound quality is excellent and installing music from my itunes was a breeze. There is no display screen or menu, but those are frills I would not use enough to consider paying extra money for. The 2 GB Shuffle is perfect for my needs.
I love it!
What is there to say about the iPod shuffle that hasn't already been said in the other 300+ reviews?
So here are the five things *I* like best about it:
It's small and lightweight and goes right into my shirt pocket.
It's inexpensive so if i lose or break it or if it is stolen no big deal.
I can use the controls without looking at it.
It holds just the right amount of music.
Sand doesn't mess it up at the beach.
The charge lasts a long time.
Okay, so that's six.
Anyway, I've had my shuffle for 2 1/2 years and I still love it.
