"Mordab" contains some of Googoosh's timeless songs.
Born February 7, 1951, Googoosh Faegheh Atashin -- more than any other vocalist or pop-icon -- represents the cosmopolitan nature of Iran's complex pre-revolutionary society. With "Mordab"/"Marsh," she not only sings songs that -- certainly shocking to most Iranians -- implicidly and metaphorically criticize Mohammad Reza Shah's oppressive regime: (i.e. "Daryaee"/"Ocean-like" written by Janatee-Attayai/Varujan and inspired by Samad Behrangi's politically charged "The Black Little Fish," to "Mordab"/"Marsh" written by Sarfaaz/Varujan; but Googoosh also lends her voice to the most intoxicating Iranian pop gems like "Kooh"/"Mountain" and "Bemoon Ta Bemoonam"/"Remain So I Can Remain." If anyone ever doubted Googoosh's abilities as a vocalist -- whose unique interpretive skills leave an indelible mark on most if not all of her recordings -- they should listen to "Mordab," a 14 song collection of contemporary Iranian music (an era of music that died with the Islamic Revolution of 1979), sung by one Iran's musical pioneers -- Googoosh.

Googoosh is Iran's pop diva. She is a singer-actress, who has fans from her generation and the next generation. Despite from her absence from the scene for 21 years, she has more fans these days than ever. This albumis named "Mordab", which is probably one of the best hits by our nice Googoosh, whose songs are always fun and full of meanings. Also, Googoosh's most popular songs such as "Kouh" and "Daryaee" are appeared in this album. This album is distributed by Caltex records, which is one of the best companies in music production for the persian songs. Having this album is an investment.

Her music will always be remembered (she unfortunately doesn't sing anymore) as symptomatic of the best side of the complex pre-revolutionary iran.
