does nobody READ??
I first read this book in the library, then purchased it. I'm surprised no one has reviewed it.
This book is a collection of essays by a BUNCH of different artists, on a BUNCH of different musical topics.
For example:
Paul Simon Talks about songwriting and melody, Steven Sondheim talks about words, Quincy Jones talks about how everyone he's ever worked with is "a beautiful person", etc, etc. Everyone has their area of expertise.
I suppose everyone thinks that just because this book was published in 1983 (and has never been updated), that it is therefore WORTHLESS.
I disagree.
Great present for a musician
I purchased this book for my partner who is a musician and building his own recording studio. He loved the book as it has short, relevant chapters that you can dip into gain some good insight and information from. Some parts are dated re: electronic music but on the whole the book was a great find.
