Average customer review:Product Description
This 5 1/2" by 8" QWIKGUIDE shows bassists how to play along with popular jazz chord progressions. The examples demonstrate how to use triads, arpeggios, scales, and passing tones in swing, be-bop, bossa nova, and ballad styles. The sample bass lines are all written in tablature for the 4-string bass, making it easy to learn fingerings and positions. The included CD presents each example twice, once as bass solo with accompaniment (piano and drums) and then as accompaniment only.

Practical, fun overview of Jazz Bass playing
This guide is a very practical, concise, fun, and effective overview of Jazz Bass playing. Matheos relates all the lines to the chords in the progression, and it is very easy to follow and absorb. The recording is fun to listen to, and the progressions are great. This book is worth much more than the 5 bucks. Highly recommended.
cool little book
i'd listened to alot of jazz music but couldn't make a whole lot of sense of what was going on harmonically.
i found this inexpensive but totally useful book and have studied it for years!
the examples basically build off the same, or similar chord progressions but move you through example lines using major, minor, diminished and augmented chord tones.
the author explains the standard, "rhythm changes", and challenges you with multiple ways to approach the chords. that alone is worth the price of admission!
the book is relatively short, its physically small, and includes a CD that you can jam to, with or without the bass lines.
other members of the band also can benefit by the chord studies and the play-along section at the end featuring different rhythm styles.
it would really come in handy for teachers, cause it uses tablature - great for beginners and non-readers (like myself!).
highly recommended if you are at all interested in learning, or are teaching jazz bass... :)
