Nice book for a beginner4
Now the problem I have with this book is that it is supposed to be an easy to use but complete guide for the more aware guitar player. Well it is quite easy to use but it does not by any means introduce you to all of the scales and it gives only one playing shape a scale instead of the five required to cover the entire fretboard. So this one is more of a guide for the beginner really only the first chapter will not be easy to decode for someone starting to study scales.

Do Not Buy This Book1
I bought this poorly written "book" about ten years ago. It was a complete waste of money. It's very sparse and full of typos, omissions and errors -- even errors in depicting the few scales and modes it covers. It has far fewer pages than a cheap magazine.

It's very hard to understand that way it's written and a lot of what's in it is filler repeated on nearly every page. For example, it's completely unnecessary to show a fretboard construction to explain that a scale is in its root position on the low E string at every fret! The book refers to the Major Pentatonic scale but then never describes the scale! There are actual errors in the scales and the book doesn't show the various patterns in which the scales and modes can be played.

I've been ripped off by Hal Leonard Corporation guitar books too many times. I'm so happy that accurate guiter tabs can be found online because I still own Hal Leonard tabs that are inaccurate from years ago.

Maybe this book has been edited to fix its omissions and errors, but I doubt it and don't care. It's not worth the money. You'll just end up confusing yourself unnecessarily. Either find a better book or get better information online for free.

Good scale book4
Covers all the scales you will need for playing guitar. Graphics are easy to understand and are presented in a format that is easy to memorize. I recommend this book for anyone who has had problems learning or understanding how to use scales and what they are used for.
