The updated edition of this bestselling guitar instruction book now includes new music examples! This book will show you how to: play lead and rhythm anywhere on the fretboard, in any key; play a variety of lead guitar styles; play chords and progressions anywhere on the fretboard; expand your chord vocabulary; and learn to think musically - the way the pros do. Each chapter presents a pattern and shows how to use it, along with playing tips and guitar insights. Absolute beginners can follow the diagrams and instruction, and intermediate and advanced players can use the chapters non-sequentially to increase their understanding of the guitar.

How to build a jazz chord solo".
excellent
Found it in the library and had to buy my own. I'm a novice wanting to learn music theory, particularly blues, and this book offers the clearest presentation of music theory for the guitar that I have yet encountered.
There are better options - this one is ok, but not great
This is a good summary text. However, I think you can get everything and more that is contained in this by visiting online guitar theory sites. I would not recommend this book because I felt that the author did not explain terms prior to thier use, which for beginners, is very confusing. I was familiar with the terms so it was ok. It covers the major topics but not that well, in my opinion. I'd recommend instead the following package for beginner/intermediate guitarists: Alfred's essentials of Music Theory Complete Student CD, Fretboard Logic SE (not the whole $60 kit), and an internet search on Guitar Theory and Music Theory. You can get everything you need without purchasing this book. It's not bad, but its not complete and you'll end up buying other redundant materials to understand it.
