From Library Journal
Even more useful than Josquin des Pres and Mark Landsman's Creative Careers in Music (LJ 8/00), this title emulates more traditional reference works in arrangement and contentDquite successfully, as evidenced by its numerous editions. Organized into 12 general employment sections and covering over 80 jobs in the music field, this book offers standardized information on such diverse careers as orchestra manager, songwriter, tour coordinator, cantor, and karaoke singer (!). The headings within each entry include position description, salaries, employment prospects, advancement prospects, education and training, experience/skills/ personality traits, unions/associations, and tips for entry. In addition, Field, owner of a public relations and management firm and author of other "Career Opportunities" titles, provides a handy "career ladder" for each entry that shows how one's career may progress. Eleven appendixes also enable the interested user to find colleges, schools, workshops, and seminars. Books and periodicals are recommended for further research, and a handy glossary is included to help familiarize potential industry entrants with basic terminology. Well written and with no verbiage, this is the title to purchase if a library can only afford one career book in this area.DDavid M. Turkalo, Suffolk Univ. Law Sch. Lib., Boston

a must-have book!
This is perhaps the singular most important book for those who want a career in the music industry and love music but don't exactly know what they want to do yet. I've had my copy for years now and I can honestly say it helped me find a place in the music industry and continues to generate interest for me in new areas. I am constantly referring it to others. . .again, a must-have book!
