Great Book
A great book for the studio. You can learn a lot from it, wanting to be an engineer.

Don't buy this if you want to be an assistant, it won't help you.
I'm currently a runner out here in LA and am in line to become the next assistant at the studio that I work at. This book provided NO information that was helpful to me. Here is the book summed up:

1. "Don't become an engineer because you probably won't succeed." I know that some people need to be let down hard, but if you're buying this book you might want more information about how to succeed as a second engineer and less discouragement.

2. "Work your butt off as a runner first and translate that into your work ethics as an assistant" which is what I am currently doing and didn't really need to buy a $20 book to figure it out.

I really was hoping for some insight or stories about what happened when she was an assistant engineer, but to no avail. I mean it wasn't a hard read or anything but it's definitely something you could live without.

Excellent Insight
Sarah Jones has definitely provided great insight into the "recording industry". With this book you are able to get a bird's eye view of the "real" industry. She explains in great detail of the work required to succeed in this very fickle business. If you are looking for the recording industry to be de-mystified, this book is for you. Hats off to this lady, she knows what she is talking about!
