Structure and Style, first published in 1962 and expanded in 1979, fills the need for new ways of analysis that put 20th-century music in perspective. Great Content, Poor Product Quality
Structure and Style: The Study and Analysis of Musical Forms
This is one of the classic college textbooks for musical form. Its a shame that the new publisher, Alfred, released a product whose quality is so poor that the pages come unglued from the binding each time one turns a page. The material is fundamental to understanding this field of study, but the risk in winding up with a pile of loose pages suggests that looking for an old, used hardback copy is a better avenue for obtaining this text.
