Not bad, but not great either!3
The theory is great, and i was all for the concepts explained in this book. In practice though, I thought the final mixes that I listened too on the dvd were a bit harsh, when compared to the likes of Michel Camillo. By any means not bad, just a little more "rock" than I would've liked. A great production none-the-less.

I found the book to be rather short and would've liked to get a more in-depth view at mixing each song separately, instead of simply the instruments as they appeared one by one. Relatively short and to the point, yet not exactly step-by-step as advertised...

Great to get you started on different mixing techniques on Jazz, though not nearly enough input for the more advanced...

Very good practice tool for mixing4
I see this package as a guide and practice tool for mixing Jazz and other pop music. The most important component of the package is the DVD/CD that contains the (well recorded) individual tracks for four songs. It also contains the final mix for each songs, a few submixes (e.g. drums and bass), and the scores. The book is fairly short and describes (some details of) how the tracks were recorded and gives the mix settings for the individual tracks.

I took the tracks and mixed them as I usually would have and then tried out his settings. It was interesting to see a different approach, and I learned some things on attack and release of the compressor. His approach to eq was close to mine, so there wasn't as much new info for me there. But I really found this a very valuable experience nonetheless. I wish I had a resource like this when I was starting out.

The book is set up in "lessons" that align with the author's online course at Berklee School of Music. It works pretty well when following it on your own, but I ended up working with the songs directly and using the book as a reference after I had worked through the lessons for the first song.

Instruments in the various songs include drums (kick, snare, HH, OHL, OHR, toms, floor tom) congas, bass, guitar, sax, Hammond, piano, electric bass, URbass. The overall style is rock-influenced jazz. I think it would benefit people mixing in a variety of styles - classical and metal people would get less out of it than R&B, blues, and folk, but it would still be a good exercise.
