A playwright's advice
If you are a playwright looking for opportunities to getting your play produced, this book should be your bible. I have been professionally writing children's plays(plays acted by adults for children) for the last 6 years, and I only recently purchased this book. This book helped me get one of the biggest commissions in my career. I can't say I am making loads of money falling out of my torn pockets, but I can say if it weren't for this book I would not have any plays being produced outside of my hometown. This book doesn't provide theater information that you couldn't just GOOGLE yourself, but why waste your time on that when you can just flip through this book and find out what theaters are out there. No matter how well you think you know the theater scene, this book will provide you with the info. about little known opportunities to fatten up that playwright resume as well as info. on grants, writing retreats, writer's support groups, etc... I recommend this to all of my friends who have seriously delved into playwriting.
One piece of playwriting advice. If you find a theater in the book you want to send your play to, go to their website or contact them(this info. is also in the book) to find out their current information. Artistic Directors as well as other people who run the show at a theater can change. You would show yourself as a professional if you actually had the correct information about who runs the show at a specific theater, than just hoping all the current information is current.
