Finally a book that's practical and applicable.5
Get this book! This little book (literally - it's a little bigger than a palm pilot) is five chapters packed with 175 pages, including the glossary. It is worth more than books twice its size, with twice the content. I started in music doing rap, hiphop and electronica so I got my experience from doing talent shows, contests, and parties and later in college playing gigs in a band, and later going totally digital on a PC. I never went to school for this stuff, so what I wanted was some indepth tips and techniques to polish my sound. Most other books are extremely intellectual and contain very little practical-wise for someone who already has some experience. You'll learn all the correct words and terminology for what you've already done from experience. Now you can take a written test and pass with an A. But it won't help you recording wise. Also typical books will only give advice on your standard pop or rock recordings. I'm doing techno which pretty much goes by its own rules. No reverb on the bass track? Yeah right! This book gives you practical techniques, tips and advice on a whole lot of stuff!! Effects techniques, recording vocals, balance, mix automation and little tricks for getting around little shortcomings your gear may have. And it gives you alternatives for different styles of music. First I was a little nervous when I saw how little it was. And it came a big 'ole box. I was like, "oh no, I wasted my money again." But believe me this book delievers!! It gives new meaning to "put it in da mix!"

what i got was better than what i was looking for.4
the problem with music recording and mixing is that everything is open to interpretation. unlike say... earth science where this is gravity (9.8) and it's constant and unbreakable, music has no strict rules. as such, this book is very informative but does not and can not give strict detail.

what i was looking for was a sort of cookbook that gives me different genres of music and there typical basic mixing position s from which i could create a derivative mix. what i got was a book that gives you enough information to let you make those pan, balance, eq, and effects decisions for yourself.

what i got was much better than what i was looking for!

A must have for all potential engineers and mixers!5
This book is a must have for anyone who is interested in becoming or is an engineer/mixer. I have been a professional engineer/producer for 6 years and purchased this book for my girlfriend who's studing music technology, I read through with interest and found it to be very clearly laid out full of useful information for anyone involved in music production. It has been written so as not to be above anyones understanding and makes reference to the other books in the series with a brief explanation of the topic in question. All aspect of Mixing are approched including how to get the best recording before you consider the mixing process, arrangments and basic recording techniques for all instruments. My advice is to all musicians go and buy this book even if your not an engineer so as you may have an understanding of the whole concept. Excellent book very informative everyone buy it!!
