A MUST-HAVE for beginners!
This book is an excellent introduction to the world of miking drums, I'm so glad I paid the $10, it was worth every penny! As a complete novice, I own a mixing board, and a set of drum mics, and set them up the way I thought they should go. Sure, I was able to get sound out of them, no problem, and with an ounce of intelligence and experience, I figured out the equalizer and levels. But there were a few things I just couldn't wrap my head around. I began to read the book. It's not much more than 80 pages long, but touches on everything a beginner needs to know, how microphone placement affects the sound of the drum (a problem I was having), how to use 1 microphone to record, all the way through a full kit of micrphones. How to use effects of the mixing board, what each dial means, where to place the microphone on the drum's diameter and what sound is achieved, how close to the drum head to place the microphone, and what is achieved by that. The book also comes with a CD illustrating the various sounds and effects of microphone placement, etc.
I sat down and read the book almost cover to cover in one night, and identified with so many little things that I could change or tweak to improve my drum and recording sound.
This book is an excellent read, and an absolute must for the beginner wanting to create a home studio atmosphere, and come on, a book and CD for $10, you can't beat that price!
EXCELENT - Quick and to the point !!!
If you are not experienced in the recording field BUY this book.
It comes with audio samples of EVERY SINGLE TOPIC !!
The writing is clear and simple. It will give you a very clear idea of what you have to do.
This is a most if you are starting to record drums or even if you have done it in the past but have no real knowledge.
This book is really good and will make you get good results in no time !!!!
Pretty Good!
This was a quick read and probably could be even more condensed but still good tips! It really helped remind me of some of the more basic techniques of recording than just the "perfect" sound for drums. Great diagrams. If you want more advanced book, this is not it.
