Editorial Reviews
Album Description
Six Degrees is proud to reissue When The Funk Hits The Fan, the first installment in a trilogy of albums by Philadelphia-based Sylk 130. Long available only as an import, this album is a fun and flavorful tribute to '70s funk, as crafted by Sylk 130's creative mainspring, renowned DJ/producer/remixer King Britt. As with the group's recent hit '80s tribute, Re-Members Only, Sylk 130 succeeds in creating both an homage to the era that gave us Funkadelic and the Ohio Players and a timeless collection of soulful songs.

Doesn't Hit A Mark Anywhere...
Maybe this album/artist is just trying to do too much in too many areas, but I felt this CD just didn't hit gold anywhere. A tribute to the Funkadelic 70's? I don't think so, the energy just isn't there. More like Sunday morning mood music, if you ask me (and you did, that's why you are reading this review!). There is just too much outstanding old school funk out there to waste your time listening to this. Maybe if you are looking for some acid house music with a slight pinch of 70's funk, but if you are shooting for something along the lines of Bootsy, go elsewhere...
funky jazz or jazzy funk?
when the funk hits the fan is a mythical day in the life of the mythical Sylk 130, King Britt's alter ego. Too many 'mythicals?'. A cleverly blended mix of Old School samples and heavily jazz influenced contributions, this film without a soundtrack refuses to allow itself to be pigeon-holed, surpirising you with a variation of takes on jazz/ funk/ soul fusion, interspersed with dialogues as Sylk 130 takes us through a day in the life of a DJ.
