Essential for learning brush technique5
If you want to learn brush technique from the master this video is an amazing learning resource as well as a way to peer into the mind of the one drummer who was cited by both Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa as the best in the world on brushes.

This is more than just a DVD - it comes with a booklet that further describes the techniques shown on the video (a transcribed play-along), and has some excellent music as well with accompaniment by Ron Carter on bass and Tony Purrone on guitar.

You can take this instructional video a step further by listening to Thigpen's performances on any Oscar Peterson Trio recording from 1958 through 1965. You'll learn all you need to know about brushwork from this DVD plus listening to Thigpen's recorded work.

What a wunnerful wunnerful video!5
I just watched the first half of this tonite. I had a basic beat going in no time. Then some accents, too. Yeah, maybe it is basic, but I tried a bit before this tape & it (timing) never really came together. Ed starts slow enough for you to follow, and you can watch it and play with the camera angles set just right. The band swings, and they are fun to play with after each lesson as well. If you want to get going on brushes, this is a must!

Great DVD5
When I put this DVD on I found the performances alone are already worth the money. The great bassist Ron Carter plays on the video. I could listen to Ed Thigpen and Ron Carter all day.

I could get a basic beat in no time. The camera is set up so you can see exactly what Ed Thigpen is doing, all the time. Exercises are usefull and go straight to the point. Ron Carter's bass make them even more pleasant to listen to. Definitely recommend.
