Customer Reviews
easy to get started. great value
This was my first attempt at recording via my computer. It was easy to install on windows xp media edition and I was recording in minutes! I can't imagine a better value for all the features you get.
Great Toy
This is just a great fun tool. It only gets 4 stars because you have to spend some time figuring out how to use it.
I bought it for my son who is studying electronic music at universtiy and he has had a blast with it. So for those of you who want to lay down some tracks with lots of different sounds this is for you. While you can use it just for fun it can also be used as a work tool, especially if you are on the road.
Vista Users Be Warned
If you use Windows Vista or plan on switching to Vista, your M-Audio equipment isn't going to work the way it did in XP.
M-Audio has a Vista driver for the Fast Track USB but it doesn't always work. I downloaded the driver from M-Audio's support page and installed it as instructed. Within minutes I was up and running. Everything seemed to be working fine at first. I had Ableton Live 7 and Reason 4.0 running. After a few hours of working, I started to get distorted popping sounds. It happened as I was recording guitar and also during playback. I saved all of my work, closed the programs and uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for the Fast Track. When I played back the track I was working on earlier, the popping sounds were gone so I assumed everything was fixed. However, when I tried to work on music later that week, the distorted popping sounds were back.
I was thinking about upgrading to the M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile but a friend of mine who owns one, and also runs Vista, encountered the same sound issue I did with the Fast Track USB. As of today, M-Audio only has a beta-driver for Fast Track Pro Mobile. The driver for the Fast Track USB is not a beta and still has issues. I had a sound issue with an M-Audio USB Uno as well (which I also wrote a review for). Personally, I will not purchase anymore M-Audio products due to their poor Vista drivers.
