I feel that I am losing the struggle within
Here is a case of a splendid band going criminally unnoticed.
Female-fronted bands are all the rage right now (and it's not showing any signs of letting up) and a good majority of the bands that are getting noteriety for that fact are led by a less-than-stellar vocalist. Then there's Within Temptation. Everything about WT screams 'CLASSIC!'. From their amazing use of strings, choirs, what-have-you, everything they do they do tastefully and to perfection. Nothing is overdone, nothing feels forced--I'm looking squarely at you Nightwish--not a single song overstays its welcome.
Thus is the formula WT have had from the get-go (mind you I'm relatively new to WT, I've heard most of their catalog). However, The Silent Force is where they, more or less, streamlined their sound to more concise, to the point, tracks. Also, gone are the male vocals. I can honestly say that Enter and Mother Earth both used them to a great science. Yes, they were there and yes they were prominent, but they were actually good. Yet I digress. If you're thinking of beginning your journey into WT's world, I'd recommend starting here. There's a beginners curve to the entire CD that won't alienate you like their first couple CDs might. Plus, everything from previous albums and future are presented here. So whether you travel backwards from here or forwards, you'll know what to expect.
For the longest while I didn't think that The Heart of Everything could be topped (that being where I started). Well, if The Silent Force doesn't top it, it at the very least equals it. Each song has its own distinct sound and feel so you won't be caught thinking "Wait, didn't I just hear this?". Take the two huge standouts--for me--Stand My Ground and Aquarius. Both are heavy, both have soaring choruses, but that's all they have in common. Both have drastically different sounds, both see Sharon singing completely different, etc, etc. Even the two sweeping ballads, Pale and Memories, are polar opposites.
My favorite songs are Stand My Ground, Pale, Memories, Aquarius, and It's The Fear. One look at each and every review posted here only solidifies this CDs power. So whether you're looking for an album to pump your fist to or one to just put on and kick back to, The Silent Force has got ya covered. Highly recommended.
Simply Brilliant!
I am so happy that this album is getting a US release, this is one of the best records of the decade, and even if u dont like metal i think u will still like it mainly due to the haunting voice of Lead singer Sharon Den Adel, i seriously advise u pick this up right away, this is a classic
Very Good
A great album. A must for all Withing Temptation fans. I strongly recommend this to Evanescence and Nightwish fans as well as you will see elements of both bands in WTs music. A perfect blend I would say.
