Had My Doubts but the Product is Great
My expectations were that this would be a "no brainer" to get set up. My system is simple: Panasonic 50" Plasma HDTV, Dish Network satellite box, and Panasonic DVD player. When I purchased the Harmony One remote, everything was going good until the remote would not recognize the Dish Network satellite remote. I made my first call to Logitech Harmony One product support. I was happy that I was able to get a tech support person right away. She helped with the set-up and I thought all was well when we were through. After hanging-up, I tried to turn on my TV and satellite box using the Harmony One remote. Although both turned on, the TV would go to the "TV" selection instead of the "HDMI 1" selection that I wanted. As a result, I was not seeing any picture but a bunch of static. I then called a 2nd time and got a tech support person right away. This person could not help me and said I needed their level 2 support help. After waiting on the phone for 15 minutes to connect to their level 2 support, I hung up and was seriously considering the wisdom of this purchase. After waiting a couple of days to "cool down", I called a third time into tech support. This time, the tech support person was able to help me. He basically recognized that it was a timing issue with the remote signal to the TV and the timing that the TV was making to make the correct selection. He worked with me and after several different timing adjustments (which he made on his end and then I downloaded from my computer to the Harmony One remote), everything worked fine. I think the basic problem was the literature that I read made it seem like this would be a very simple set-up and it wasn't. I thought I had a very simple setup of three items and there is no way I could have gotten this to work without tech support - especially someone knowledgable. Bottom line is once I got past my frustrations and having to call tech support three times, the product is really great. It is very easy to use, I especially like the remote coming with the charger, and it replaced the three different remote units that I was using. Also, the controls are very intelligently laid out on the remote and are easy to identify and use.

YES! Logitech FINALLY gets it right!
I was an early adopter of the VERY FIRST Harmony Remote way back in the 1990's, back when Harmony was its own standalone company (before it was purchased by Logitech). The remote was pretty unintuitive to setup, its Mac support was weak, and the remote control didn't last very long (I had to replace it several times). Even after I painstakingly got it setup, I was the only person who could figure out how to use my own remote and I still had to have a few extra remotes laying around the coffee table.

I always wanted to dive back in again with another Harmony remote to give them another chance, but if you take a look at all the Harmony remotes that preceded this one, they were designed with absolutely no sense of intuitiveness or user-friendliness of where the buttons were placed. It would be impossible to figure out where the buttons are in the dark, without turning on the light and looking at the remote control.

FINALLY, SOMEONE AT LOGITECH GOT IT RIGHT! This Harmony One remote is not only totally intuitive & user-friendly in your hands (you can feel your way around all the buttons in the dark), but also the new touchscreen is totally intuitive & a welcome relief as well. It's wonderful to hold & navigate in your hand! I would like to take an extra moment to THANK LOGITECH for FINALLY creating a remote that you can navigate in the dark by touch. Why did it take this long? :-)

The new Java-based configuration software has been completely revamped, it is totally Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard compatible, and the Logitech database even recognizes the brand new Roku Netflix Box which just came on the market a few months ago. (Although I did have to email tech support to figure out that one: You have to choose PVR->Roku, and then manually type in "Netflix" as the model number.)

It took me less than 15 minutes to set this remote up, and it worked PERFECTLY right after the first configuration! Also, any extra buttons on your original remotes that don't fit on the Harmony remote will show up on the touchscreen for you to press! This is INGENIOUS, Logitech!

I was also thrilled to discover that this controls my brand new TiVo HD-DVR as well, without a hitch.

I also LOVE the fact that there are no more batteries to deal with... you just set it in its beautiful cradle and it recharges for you. Logitech even went through the extra hassle of putting rubber feet on the bottom of the cradle so the cradle doesn't slide on your table when you place the remote in it!

I read through some of the other reviews on this remote, and some of them made me nervous that the infrared (IR) line-of-sight would not be good. I have found this complaint to NOT be true. I can point the remote in the complete opposite direction of my TV and its devices, and the devices will STILL respond to me pressing the buttons on the Harmony Remote. So I'm not sure what's going on with the other people's remotes who were having problems with the IR line-of-sight... maybe they got defective remotes?

In any case, Logitech REALLY spent their time on this remote and it shows. I am so thrilled to finally be back in the fray again with a Harmony Remote, because they really did it right this time.

This is the ONE!
I have used this for 2 weeks and am extremely satisfied. It operates my Samsung TV, Toshiba HD DVD player, Motorola DVR, Bose Freestyle speakers, Lutron Chandalier control and Lasko fan control. This is one of the most innovative products out in the market. The engineers at Logitech have created a device that is very functional, gets rid of clutter and creates a stunning impression. Since the device database is online and is constantly updated this remote could potentially last forever without getting obsolete.
