The Art of Magic WordsThe Art of Magic Words by Llysse Smith Wylle
Buy new: $12.98 / Used from: $12.10
This is the instructional manual for writing spells in verse--however, it doesn't include all the digressions into 101 stuff. Use your favorite books with information on magical herbs, color symbolism and so forth, because this is just about WRITING. (I wrote it, so I should know :) )
Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs (Llewellyn's Sourcebook Series)Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs (Llewellyn's Sourcebook Series) by Scott Cunningham
Buy new: $10.85 / Used from: $5.97
This is my favorite reference for magical uses of herbs--I love the Cunningham's Guides.
Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem & Metal MagicCunningham's Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem & Metal Magic by Scott Cunningham
Buy new: $10.85 / Used from: $3.50
This is a good one for referencing the magical uses of stones and metals--important to know if you're creating a charm, amulet or fetish.
Oxford Rhyming DictionaryOxford Rhyming Dictionary
Buy new: $25.79 / Used from: $23.00
My favorite rhyming dictionary: rather expensive, but it is the best! There are good online rhyming dictionaries, too. Use several to get the best results, as none seem to be quite as good as this one.
Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Wicca in the KitchenCunningham's Encyclopedia of Wicca in the Kitchen by Scott Cunningham
Buy new: $12.21 / Used from: $9.00
I like this one, too--I don't tend to use it quite as much for Word magic, but it's a great reference.
Wheel of the Year (Beginners Guide)Wheel of the Year (Beginners Guide) by Teresa Moorey
Buy used from: $19.80
This is helpful for referencing the symbology associated with the Wheel of the Year.
The Complete Book of Incense, Oils and Brews (Llewellyn's Practical Magick)The Complete Book of Incense, Oils and Brews (Llewellyn's Practical Magick) by Scott Cunningham
Buy new: $10.85 / Used from: $5.40
Another of Cunningham's Guides. What I like about these so much is that they are so basic; they provide fundamental information you can adapt to your own practice; you can use these books (and books like these) in conjunction with a "how-to" book that is targeted at a specific skill, and you don't have to get all this same information again and again.
