An all-time favorite. This is a fantastic book, and we love it so much we bought the Scholastic DVD that goes along with it (great, great singing and animation). If you're a real fan of this one, also try Chicka Chicka 123.

Another classic. Great for little kids learning common animals, and the pictures/art by Eric Carle are some of his best--simple, bright illustrations that fill the entire page. If you like this one, also get his Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? (About zoo animals) and Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See? (About Endangered Animals), and the new Baby Bear, Baby Bear, What Do You See?

Classic! The art by Simms Taback is fantastic, and the pages have cut-out sections showing previous animals. Each page is a delight of details and color. This book also has a Scholastic DVD animated version, with the song sung by Cindi Lauper, of all people!

This is such a cute book! My sons love this song because it's on a Dan Zanes album. They're transfixed by the book...two ducks courting each other on a farm with cows, chickens, and pigs. The artwork is by Rosemary Wells, of Noisy Nora fame. It's just adorable, and so fun!

A simple count-to-ten book, but OH! the illustrations! The chickens are bright and bold, and the story only has a few words per page...perfect for a kiddo that wants something very fast-paced and bright.

My kids love this book. The illustrations are beautiful and warm, and the story/song shows a happy relationship between a little brother and sister. There are also some sweet scenes with their mom, and the book is dedicated to step-mothers. This one gets requested over and over, but it's so lovely I enjoy opening it each time.

Sung to "The Wheels on the Bus," it's a brightly illustrated look at different kinds of vehicles, boats, etc. Introduces colors, too! My kids love this book far more than I thought they would.

Another counting rhythm book, but with such sweet and lovely illustrations! A classic. There are many other versions of this book, too, so it's worth doing a search if you like the song.

This book's real treasures are the illustrations. Each folk-art page is a collection of so many details...it's the kind of book you read again and again as a parent, and each time there's something new to look at. The book's message of environmentalism and social justice is definitely above the heads of most preschoolers, but as a parent I like how this book introduces the concepts.

Classic, goofy, rhythmic rhymes like only Dr. Seuss can write. "Big F, little f, F..f..F, Four fluffy feathers on a fiffer-feffer-feff." The challenge is to read it without getting tongue-tied. So fun! The Seuss "Foot Book" was also a big hit with my 1-year old.

If you like the bounce of the Sandra Boynton books, you'll love this one. Lots of movement and body part words, and cute illustrations of kids and animals. "Clap your hands/Stomp your feet./Shake your arms then take a seat./Rub your tummy,/pat your head./Find something yellow/Find something red."

Another new addition to our family... it's based on the familiar rhyme "to market to market to buy a fat pig," but it's about an older lady who keeps bringing farm animals back to her house. One by one the animals cause a mess, and on each page you see the commotion grow and grow. At the end she makes a big pot of soup for all the animals to enjoy. Bright, active illustrations.

My kids love this book--we get out a monkey puppet and shake our fingers while we sing along. Bright, cute, and as an added bonus each page has a rubber monkey face. If you like this one, you might also want to try the Ten Little Ladybug book and the Ten Wishing Stars book. Both can be sung to "Twinkle Twinkle" and the illustrations are kid favorites.

Another book that adults will enjoy as they sing along...the words and illustrations are just plain funny, sung to the tune of "Oh My Darling Clementine."

We just got this one; at first I didn't like it. It's very busy visually. My kids seem to like it a lot, though. It's jaunty and goofy, and every page has something joke-like on it. It's not about hunting, but about getting ready for bed. Toddlers will like the silly peppy song; slightly older kids will understand the humor and word play.

This is a lovely, calming book. Perfect for bedtime or for a cuddly afternoon read. The pictures are bright, somewhat abstract, and very colorful, and (as you'd expect with this Armstrong classic) the children's puppet show celebrates multiculturalism and the beauty of the world. Wonderful book, wonderful message.

A very sweet book, with lots of scenes of rural life and farm animals so the kiddies love it. It's the traditional song, but the illustrations are wonderful. They show the seasons, the farm and all its responsibilities, and a very loving happy family (nurse and pets included). Could be a nighttime book or a fun daytime book.
