Originally aired on PBS' Great Performances in February 2008, this is the DVD of the Tony Award-winning revival of "Company" featuring Esparza's galvanizing performance as Bobby. It's a fine record of the last performance given in July 2007. The DVD also includes interviews with Esparza, director John Doyle and the legendary Stephen Sondheim.

I was fortunate to experience Esparza's knockout performance as the elliptical Bobby in the stunning Broadway revival of Sondheim and George Furth's 1970 classic. He fully captures the character's arc with an escalating emotional intensity from the measured romanticism of "Someone Is Waiting" to the tender tentativeness of "Marry Me a Little" to the bursting climactic catharsis of "Being Alive".

Along with his fellow "Company" cast members, Esparza sings "Auld Lang Syne", which ends the first disc of this two-CD seasonal set recorded in 2006 for the Broadway Cares charity organization.

In his scene-stealing role as cross-dresser Philip Sallon, Esparza brings camp to the infamous Rosie O'Donnell-produced flop, which traces the early London club career of 1980's icon Boy George (who composed the pop-heavy music). He soars powerfully with his showcase number, the poignant "Petrified".

Jonathan Larson's modest, pre-"Rent" musical showcases Esparza's yearning portrayal of the late composer on the verge of his dreaded 30th birthday. More pop than Broadway in sound with standout performances, including the touching "Johnny Can't Decide", the rollicking "Green Green Dress", the anthem-like "Louder Than Words", and the story's beautiful turning point, "Why".

Esparza leads a full-throttle version of "The Time Warp" as an agile yet most sinister Riff-Raff in his auspicious 2000 Broadway debut.
