The most wonderful BASIC resource for beginning singers. I picked this book up in order to check it out for means of phrasing concepts and instructions in an easy-to-understand manner for my students. Fulford and Miller teach in a nearly identical manner to my own technique, and this book is an excellent addition to the library of any beginning or reviewing singer, or any voice teacher.

Don't ever be the "stupid diva". Carry this excellent resource wherever you go, and you'll have the answers at your fingertips! There are several books that can be used for the same purpose. This is the one I carry with me.

A more in-depth overview of the voice and how it works. There is a lot of information packed into this relatively tiny book, but it's a great resource for vocalists and voice teachers. This is harder to follow than the "Idiot's Guide", but it's better for teen-agers & older students.

Italian is the most commonly sung language for the western classical singer. This is one of a number of pocket dictionaries that are suitable. You will need to use it to get a literal translation & for pronunciation assistance.

Sight Singing skills will set you ahead of the competition. This is one of the easiest books to use for basic sight singing, incorporating intervals and rhythmic challenges. I use it for my own students.

A must have for all divas. If you don't know these popular stage/Broadway pieces, you're missing a lot of performance opportunities... not to mention a lot of great songs!

This will put you ahead of the average singer. This is a systematic process for developing an excellent musical ear. A useful guide for all music students! Ear-training is sadly overlooked with many voice students!

All singers should develop diverse skills. This is a great first book for jazz vocalists. The CD is a great addition.

An incredible source of popular song selections for the professional or aspiring vocalist. Included are many Broadway tunes, classic rock, contemporary songs, jazz standards and many more. This will provide a seemingly endless selection of music to learn and to love.

An essential guide for vocalists studying repertoire in the languages of French, German, Spanish, Italian and Latin. These are certainly the most widely sung languages for western music vocalists, and it is essential that the singer become comfortable reading and pronouncing each of these languages when a new and unfamiliar piece is set before them.

German Lieder is the next most commonly sung repertoire, and a German pocket dictionary is a necessity to any serious singer.

Although much less common than the other languages, Spanish is an important language within art song literature and will be an area you will want to be prepared for.

An excellent, thorough overview of the development of the art-song literature as we now know it. It is so important to know the background of what you are pursuing as a career, in order to truly appreciate the composers and others influential in developing this art form.

An excellent assortment of arias on the intermediate-advanced level. All the major composers and languages are covered. Every soprano will find enough material in here and the second book to fill several recitals.

A logical addition to your library after teh first volume. I actually like the pieces in this volume even better.

For serious students of classic soprano arias, and those who appreciate the voice and artistry of Maria Callas, this is a great reference book. It does not provide the full piece, but provides notes on how to present the aria.

A good, solid assortment of beginning and advancing coloratura arias. This is a good step from the standard soprano arias, but does not delve as deeply into the more difficult coloratura pieces.

One of the best investment a voice teacher or serious voice student can make. Not for the beginner. Full of weighty information.

Don't be stupid about the industry! There is more to know than you might think, and while you don't need to know it all off the top of your head, this book will provide the reference when you need to find the answers.
