VersionsVersions by Poison the Well
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $4.56
Versions is a logical extension from Poison the Well's 2003 You Come Before You, so if you liked what you heard then, come on in. It is a really grown up album that will shock you with how soft it gets, and how peaceful such angry music can be. There are some really great songs here. One of my favorite albums ever.
SkullgridSkullgrid by Behold the Arctopus
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $6.97
Incredible follow-up to Nano-Nucleonic Cyborg Summoning. New York based instrumental trio make some of the most insanely complex and beautiful music I've ever heard. It will floor you. It is amazing.
MirroredMirrored by Battles
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $7.49
Battles is almost impossible for me to classify. This is every bit as much progressive rock as it is math rock, and then just fun poppy stuff too. It's mostly instrumental, and the whole way through it's just simply good.
Ire WorksIre Works by The Dillinger Escape Plan
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $8.48
Ire Works brings every bit of skill and instrumental mastery they've had in the past, and adds, almost to a fault, a degree of pop sensibility never before seen. A hell of an album, you'll reel at the tech stuff, and you won't be able to get "Black Bubblegum" out of your head for a month.
ColorsColors by Between the Buried and Me
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $6.07
This album is a behemoth. It is beautiful, it is intense. It is an hour long. If you're an old fan of Between the Buried and Me, you know what to expect. If you're not, this is basically everything you'll never be able to do. Listen to it front to back, it's the only way.
WarsWars by XBXRX
Buy new: $12.98 / Used from: $1.82
I always thought of them as a noise band, but Henry Rollins said XBXRX was the last punk band in the world, and that's good enough for me. Surprisingly deep record, exceptional drumming, very easy to pick up, if you don't mind the high vocals. Sounds nothing like their previous albums, but that's XBXRX for you.
We Are the ThreatWe Are the Threat by Deathstar
Buy new: $12.98 / Used from: $4.67
Straight Edge ensemble xDeathstarx come back with a pissed off, heartfelt, and more importantly, excruciatingly heavy metalcore album. It's straightforward, and I don't know how much more detail I need to get into. It's a good album.
Our Puzzling Encounters ConsideredOur Puzzling Encounters Considered by Psyopus
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $5.96
Too tired to be clever, it's just good.
Through the Eyes of the Dead (Malice)Through the Eyes of the Dead (Malice) by Through the Eyes of the Dead
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $5.97
I was sad to see their former vocalist go, but TTEOTD is doing better than ever with Nate Johnson from Premonitions of War at the helm.
Phantom LimbPhantom Limb by Pig Destroyer
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $8.49
You can never go wrong with Pig Destroyer.
