Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $3.99
Had this in 8-track back in the day! Sounds wonderful on vinyl.
John Barleycorn Must DieJohn Barleycorn Must Die by Traffic
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $5.37
Never owned this album, lucked out and got a near mint example. Every track is an experience on vinyl you shouldn't miss. Seriously. Every track.
Desperado (Mini Lp Sleeve)Desperado (Mini Lp Sleeve) by Eagles
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $13.99
This is the album that sold me on concept albums versus greatest hits compilations. You have to hear these songs in order to really appreciate them. plus it's just a plain old strong album, start to finish.
My Aim Is TrueMy Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $8.98
This was a sleeper album back then, it still is. Listen to it almost every day.
UprisingUprising by Bob Marley & the Wailers
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $7.03
If you have a nice turntable, buy this record. I read quite a few Amazon album reviews, decided this was the Marley album I wanted, then I searched high and low until I found a nice example. I am not disappointed.
TejasTejas by ZZ Top
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $4.09
Another one of my old 8-tracks, loved it back then. Love the sound on this LP much more. Incredible. One of my favorites.
Cry ToughCry Tough by Nils Lofgren
Buy used from: $43.99
Bothers me they don't have the album art for this one. Also that it's so hard to find and out of print. I found a nice copy at a cheap price and it's a brilliant album and I love it.
Strong PersuaderStrong Persuader by Robert Cray
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $0.98
My copy of this has more surface noise and scratches than any of my other records, but it still sounds great. I swear dynamic range is just different on vinyl compared to a cd. Might not be better in a test, but it sounds better.
Sing It Again RodSing It Again Rod by Rod Stewart
Buy used from: $2.43
This is a greatest hits album that's actually pretty cool. Worth it for having Lost Paraguayos, I Know I'm Losing You, Gasoline Alley, Reason To Believe, AND Maggie Maye. Plus some other strong cuts. Basically the old "unplugged" style Rod was really good at, when Ron Wood was really good.
Never a Dull MomentNever a Dull Moment by Rod Stewart
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.79
My other "unplugged" Rod Stewart album. Could have just bought this without the "Sing It Again Rod" compilation. Once again a true concept album rules. Not really a concept album, but the wonderful sound of this band is quite a concept.
Electric WarriorElectric Warrior by T. Rex
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $14.25
Ha! Oh yes! Had this sucker in vinyl when I was a kid! You know it rules on my turntable. Mambo Sun everyday!
Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! by The Rolling Stones
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $12.99
Just plain one of my favorite albums of all time. Live or otherwise.
Led Zeppelin IV (aka ZOSO)Led Zeppelin IV (aka ZOSO) by Led Zeppelin
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $3.46
Stairway To Heaven! With little teeny ticks and pops and booming, wonderful dynamic range, the way it was meant to be listened to. Awesome piece of record all the way around.
Fables of the ReconstructionFables of the Reconstruction by R.E.M.
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $3.77
I remember this as a cassette I listened to in the dark on headphones when I was out to sea in the Navy. Perfect dark, lonely music. Turns out it's also an awesome record to do housework to (I think that cassette was actually Reckoning. Have to look it up).
