Special events either get noticed or fail. Design is the most important factor in which course an event will take. With often a very large investment and high expectations for turnout at the pressure of the design team to create a memorable visual and aesthetic is huge.

Modeled on the format and presentation of Business Graphics, this book will feature a vast collection of designs for special events from around the globe. Designing for special events such as fundraisers, trade shows and conferences is becoming commonplace for many designers as the need to compete for attendance at these events increases.

The book title says it all5
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R20R5RE4N0RB7S There are 320 pages in these book. In it contains pictures of graphic design done on different medium for special occasions.

19 out of these hundreds of designs are pulled out as case studies. Each case study has a short write up explaining the event and the promotional material published. These promotional material includes tickets, brochures, t-shirts, posters, cards and many other stuff. The more eye catching ones are those that break out of the medium, like tying real shoe laces to a shoe on a brochure, paper cutouts and stuff like that.

The events themselves are also categorized. Here's the list:

- Art & Design
- Business
- Fund-raisers
- Community & Education
- Entertainment
- Private Parties
- Awards
- Sports & Automotive

It's a graphic design book from Rockport. There's really nothing much I can add. The quality of selection has always been consistently high.

Great substance but slightly dated4
Design for Special Events is the kind of title I've been searching for. More than just pretty wedding invites with silky bows, this collection features substantial event campaigns, with multiple pieces, for a broad variety of events. While some of the graphics are gritty, not the elegant invitations many are used to, it was a refreshing change of pace. On the downside, however, while the text describes event-related design as "of the moment", many of these pieces, frankly, weren't. Many of the events happened in 2003, or earlier, and there was a heavy number of "retro" examples using Rosewood font and "farmer's almanac" type graphics. Overall, this is a nice addition to my reference collection but I hope future titles will be more current.
