In today's worship-crazed phase of Christian pop, Mercy Me fits right in with smooth melodies, passionate lyrics, and a vertical focus. Yet the transition from worship band to major-label act demands more. Almost There promises just enough to allow it to rise above its inconsistencies. Prayer of Jabez-inspired "Bless Me Indeed" is a glimmer of brilliance where the group brings it all together, but it's the poignancy and power of "I Can Only Imagine" that testifies to Mercy Me's great potential. The dramatic ballad captures a believer's hope for the afterlife and is fueled by Bart Millard's authoritative vocals. The song will continue to be a staple in church worship services for years to come. Then there are the not so brilliant moments, including the cheesy "House of God" and "All Fall Down." Weak moments aside, Almost There offers enough fireworks to make Mercy Me an act to watch. --Michael Lyttle

Amazing Debut. I'm Sorry I Waited So Long
When Mercy Me released their first widely distributed CD in 2001, they exploded on the Christian music scene, especially with the hit single "I Can Only Imagine." I heard people raving about them at the time, but for some stupid reason, I didn't give them a try. I finally got this CD a few months ago, and I can see what all the talk was about.
The guys of Mercy Me have created a worship focused CD that is enjoyable as a regular CD as well. It kicks off with the upbeat "I Worship You," a perfect companion song to "Call to Worship" later in the disc. Their passion to worship is seen in these songs as well as such songs as "Cannot Say Enough," "How Great is Your Love," and "Fall Down." Yet all these songs are offered with an incredibly fun pop/adult contemporary sound and thoughtful lyrics that put it above many other modern worship albums.
"Here Am I," a song inspired by Isaiah 6, especially challenged me. It's a catchy tune that I find myself singing, but as I do, I have to ask myself if I really mean what I'm singing.
And of course there's "I Can Only Imagine." This song will be the group's signature song for years to come. Its powerful and thought provoking lyrics question just what our reaction will be when we finally get to Heaven. It's worth buying the CD for this song alone.
I've just been introduced to this group, and I'm already looking forward to picking up their other CD's. If this disc is any indication, Mercy Me will have a long and successful career ahead of them.
Mercy! MercyMe a must own!
MercyMe's Almost There is one awesome worship album. Every song here is really a blessing from the Spirit of God. 'I Can Only Imagine' is getting air play on secular radio stations. With the impact this song has made, only time will tell that will bring other listeners to the Lord Jesus. If this group (backed by the phenomenal vocals of Bart Millard) has broken through truly this is an album to listen to.
The melodies are easy and soothing and the lyrics are full of passion. So astounding is 'I Can Only Imagine' that it moves one with hope. A Hope that one day for any believer that there will be eternal life after this life has passed away. I'm sure this will be one of the standard church worship song. 'Bless Me Indeed' is inspired by the Prayer of Jabez. It's genius sparks a genuine potential of the group's rising talent. Other songs that top off this album are 'Call To Worship' and 'How Great is Your Love.' If you like this check out their 'Spoken For' album and see what I mean about their influence along with SonicFlood of being maybe one of the top Comtemporary Christian groups in the future. Don't forget their video, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow out on DVD.
Totally Awesome
This cd is great! This is my first time ever hearing of the group, Mercy Me. I heard the song, I Can Only Imagine, at the movie theater and I had to find out more about this group. I have ordered both their latest cd and their old cd. I love the music and the songs are so spiritually uplifting. The songs also help bring you into the mode of worshipping the Lord. These songs will help begin part of my worship every morning when I get up. Thanks, Mercy Me for letting God use you to create this wonderful music and bring people closer to him! I can't wait for your next CD!
