Although they'll feel like they're in the middle of a Saturday morning cartoon along the lines of a Scooby-Doo mystery, kids will actually be practicing a huge range of fourth grade skills when they take on this Egyptian adventure. Players must help the ClueFinders, four clever kids who like to solve mysteries, stop a diabolical archeologist from unleashing an ancient evil force upon the world. To do this, they explore the city of Cairo, playing math, reading and geography games. In one locale, kids have to read passages about Egyptian history and in another, use their map skills to route packages to their correct destinations. As they solve the problems, children are awarded "cairoglyphs" that help them solve the mystery. Once all the challenges have been met in Cairo, it's off to the Nile kingdom where kids take on puzzles in the areas of vocabulary, science and math. Players will practice adding decimals as they build a palace and will use their knowledge of mass, force and angles to construct a bridge. Children are awarded gemstones for their successes, and these, too, come in handy as they try to stop the villain. Finally, the kids end up in an ancient pyramid where they must spell words and solve math word problems to gain entrance to the evil archaeologist's hideout to thwart his terrible plan. This program is jam-packed with content and there are many, many opportunities to practice skills. The format is highly engaging. In fact, kids wanted to take this one all the way to the end, which meant hours and hours of play.

Fourth graders in denial? When it's the river in Egypt, why not? In the latest of the "Cluefinders" series, an eccentric Egyptologist needs rescuing from the tomb-robber rogues who've kidnapped him. The skills necessary for this educational feat are those of the standard fourth grade curriculum-plus a little Indiana Jones savvy mixed in for the fun of it. Starting in Cairo, players earn scroll-deciphering skills by solving math, reading, and geography problems. Then it's on to the Nile where they work "rescue magic" with vocabulary, science and more math to enter the ancient obelisk. Finally, to solve an ancient pyramid's labyrinth, they must master word problems and spelling skills. Coaches appear when needed with hints to problem-solving strategies in the 15 games and puzzles. The graphics are smart Saturday morning cartoons. Along the adventure, kids pick up knowledge about Egyptian mythology, geography and history. The program adjusts difficulty levels, saves games, and tracks progress all automatically-and its skill levels even merge into early fifth grade expectations. (Don Oldenburg, Parents' Choice®)

IT BOMBS OUT!1
I was very surprised to get this program home and find that it seems to have some major bugs. The concept seems great, the problem is the program keeps crashing if you play it too long.

The tech people say it has to do with the on-line registration, they report some people can register and some can not.

It is very frustrating to spend good money on a program and have it not work.

I hope they get the kinks worked out of an otherwise excellent game.

Fun and challenging - my son loved it!5
My son loves this game, and solving the exercises and problems was fun to earn clues to the mystery. It seemed the appropriate level of challenge, as he will be entering 4th grade in the fall, and he needed help with some of the exercises, especially fractions. That was a good opportunity to introduce him to the subject. With the ADAPT feature, if they get stuck, the software keeps the level easy enough so they don't get too frustrated, and hard enough that it is still challenging. I highly recommend this software.

Kids loved it!5
My kids loved this adventure. My daughter is going into the 3rd grade this fall, and she has played and beaten the game on level one. She is playing again and getting better at the percentage of correct answers. My son played it many times when he was in 3rd grade. The 5 different levels make it interesting when playing over again.
