Editorial Reviews
Album Description
This is Julie Henigan's long-awaited first album, featuring traditional music and newly composed music in the traditional idiom from Ireland, the southern United States, and England. The songs are performed both unaccompanied and with guitar (tuned to DADGAD), five-string banjo, and Appalachian dulcimer, with instrumentals on guitar and banjo. The CD is notable for its understated, simple production--unusual in an era of studio effects and over-dubs--and its successful attempt to present traditional music in all its unadorned, direct beauty. The original instrumentals and song are seamlessly combined with the traditional material to create an album that unites creativity with continuity.
Steve Winick, Dirty Linen, April/May 1998
One of my favorites. Anyone who likes traditional Irish, British and American ballads and songs will love this CD.
Steve Hampshire, The Leicester Mercury, March 1988
Her vocals are a stunning blend of all that is best from both the American and the Irish traditions.... Julie Henigan has strength and sensitivity in equal abundance.
