Gay Christian leader Justin Cannon argues that the Bible doesn’t condemn faithful same-sex relationships.

Product Description

Justin Russell Cannon is the founding director of Inclusive Orthodoxy (www.inclusiveorthodoxy.org), an affirming outreach ministry to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and transsexual Christians centered around his booklet The Bible, Christianity, and Homosexuality (ISBN 978-1438249612), which is described by the Los Angeles Times as "an illuminating...analysis that argues the Bible doesn't condemn faithful gay relationships." (McGough, July 18, 2005). He also is the founder of Rainbow Christians (www.rainbowchristians.com), the internet's first gay Christian personals website.

According to Justin's website, "Inclusive Orthodoxy seeks a revitalization of the faith, which is both orthodox in theology and grounded in the progressive message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ-a message of love, a proclamation of hope for the oppressed, an invitation towards all regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation. We are calling for the Church to extend its inclusivity upon the foundation of Christian orthodoxy, and to embrace the radical implications of the Gospel message, not despite Scripture and Tradition, but in light of it."

Justin is also the editor of Sanctified: An Anthology of Poetry by LGBT Christians (ISBN 978-1438247854), released July 2008. He was featured as a "Future Gay Hero" in the prominent gay newsmagazine The Advocate (July 5, 2005) shortly before he graduated from college. In 2006 Justin was recognized as one of Out Magazine's "Out100" most influential gay people of the year, and in November 2007, he was honored as one of Instinct Magazine's 25 "Leading Men of the Year" for his activism in the gay community.

The talk featured in this DVD was originally presented for the Diocese of Northern California's Integrity chapter. Integrity USA is a ministry of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Episcopalians and their straight allies committed to the fulfillment of the 1976 promise of the Episcopal Church that "homosexual persons are full members of the Church." In this talk, Justin discusses sexual ethics, the Christian faith, disturbing trends in contemporary theology, and guides the audience through a compelling reflection on two gay-affirming biblical accounts. He is currently pursuing priesthood in the Episcopal Church through the Diocese of California.

Well Researched, Honest, and Articulately Presented5
Justin knows his stuff! He is a scholar in the field of Homosexuality and the Bible. His passionate, well researched, articulate presentation can't help but cause people to think again about literal, fundamentalist interpretation of scripture. Justin is honest and, sometimes, graphic in his use of language as he speaks to a primarily gay and lesbian audience, but he hits home with his message and his ability to make Christians reconsider their own ingrained religious assumptions. Justin lives, breathes, and eloquently preaches his belief that God created and loves us all, no exceptions! People of all faiths and sexual orientations must hear what Justin has to say. Don't miss this video!
