Product Description

Tom Brokaw of NBC Nightly News once said of the American icon Fred Rogers, "Mister Rogers was an ordained minister, but he never talked about God on his program. He didn’t need to." Eight years before his death, Fred Rogers met educator and journalist Amy Hollingsworth. What started as a television interview turned into a wonderful friendship that lasted the rest of his life—and dozens of letters that detailed the force behind this gentle man of extraordinary influence. Educator? Philosopher? Physchologist? Minister? Here is an intimate portrait of the real Mister Rogers. The Simple Faith of Mister Rogers focuses on his spiritual legacy, but is much more than that. The Simple Faith of Mister Rogers is about a man who, to paraphrase the words of St. Francis of Assisi, "preached the gospel at all times; when necessary, he used words."

Editorial Reviews

From AudioFile
At first, Amy Hollingsworth's calm voice and steady pace seemed too uninvolved, too unruffled for the depth of the emotional connection she claims to feel for the late Fred Rogers, of "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood." However, as she unfolds the story of what Rogers means to her and how his personal faith is revealed in his life and show, it becomes apparent just how fitting her delivery is. One of Hollingsworth's core claims about Rogers is that he provided a respite from the world and that the calm he created through his cadence and through the tempo at which people interacted in his neighborhood were direct reflections of his faith and gentle spirit. Life Changing5
I got this book after reading one of Mister Rogers quote books. It was such a feel good book, I ordered a few more and had them sent to friends.

The Simple Fatih of Mr. Rogers5
This is an honest and well written book which includes good examples of how Fred Rogers was the real deal. This book substantiates that there is a way to be a good person in a bad world and that way is through living the Christian faith, leaning on God. Fred Rogers had that kind of faith and was that kind of person.

Worth reading...once3
This book is nice, and a great way to remember Mr. Rogers, who evidently was as wonderful a person as could ever be. But it is written from a very personal point of view--so if you are looking for more of a biography or profile of Fred Rogers this is not the one. Some reviewers have complained about the overt Christianity in the book. Hello! He was a minister after all! And a Christian one! Anyhow, the author gives many examples of how Mr. Rogers was never too busy for her and her family, even though they were not close friends. Pretty cool.
