Finally, a new believer's class that works5
Fundamentals of the Faith has been the material for the new believer's class at Grace Community Church (Pastor John MacArthur) for decades. Tens of thousands of people have gone through it, and has been refined through the years. The result is what has to be the best and most effective new believer's class available.

This material is designed to be taught in a small group of around 10-12 people. In fact, the workbook itself is not designed for the class, but rather is the homework for the students. So during the week they do the lesson in the workbook, then once a week they come together to study what they have learned.

The material is ideal. I can't think of another curriculum like this. There are 13 lessons covering the fundamentals of the faith. It majors on the majors, and does not get sidetracked on secondary issues. It is designed for the new Christian, or the person who is investigating Christianity, but who does not really know the depths of what Christians believe. But because it is so basic, I can't help but think that a more mature Christian would also profit from it tremendously; it would be a reminder to them of the foundations of their faith.

This is not like a catechism. Rather, every question is linked to a Bible verse. The students read the verse, then answer a set of questions about what the verse (or passage) says. The end result is that the student has reinforced over and over that the Bible is the authority for life and godliness.

Chapters include the history of the Bible, God's character, the work of Christ, salvation, the ministry of the Holy Spirit, prayer, worship, spiritual gifts, evangelism, and Christian decision making, among others.
This would be perfect for churches to use as their new believers class or their membership class, or even for small groups to go through.

There is also a teacher's edition, which has the blanks filled in, along with suggestions about how to teach each lesson. Also, each lesson has a sermon from John MacArthur to accompany it. Those sermons are linked from gty.org, and they are described inside of the student's book.
