Not really even a worthy toy
This solar oven is really a joke-- it's about $5 worth of plastic and performs worse than many I've made from cardboard. I have a half-dozen large, commercially made solar ovens of various sizes and wanted to try this out as a more affordable, portable alternative. It is cheap and it is portable, but it really doesn't work well at all. The biggest handicap is the silly design for the arm that holds the clamshell open; it's just a piece of wire and there are no holes to attach it to. Accordingly, the lid flops down every time there's a breeze or after five minutes, whichever comes first.
I put this out beside a larger Indian-made oven on a clear sunny day. Pots of 50F water were placed in each and monitored for two hours. The water in the larger oven boiled after 45 minutes and the inside of the oven was close to 300F. This unit, however, only warmed the water to about 100F after TWO HOURS in full sun. A complete waste of time, space, and money.
Save your time and google "kyoto box" for ideas on how to make your own solar oven.
cooking with the sun
I live in Florida so it makes sense to use the sun. Wonderful for raisng bread and baking it. Faster then in the oven.
