I think Kris Kristofferson wrote a song with the title as a lyric. But the book came first.

Classic Tom Waits. "I've got a bad liver and a broken heart." And, "The piano has been drinking, not me."

I've got friends in low places, where the whisky flows and the beer chases my blues away. I'll be ok. But I'm not big on social graces, think I'll slip on down to the Oasis where I've got friends...

"Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose."

Lots of funny parts in this novel, and some hair-raising aspects, such as when a judge handcuffs his cheating wife to an interstate guard rail and leaves her. Nude.

Loser lit.

"Just sitting round drinking with the rest of the guys; six rounds bought and I bought five. Spent the groceries and half the rent and lack fourteen dollars having twenty-seven cents."

Another bad-liver-and-broken-heart novel. This one's also very funny.

An amazing book. Truly amazing.

"Father forgive us for what we must do. You forgive us; we'll forgive You."
