Product Description

2009 Reprint of 1952 first edition. Neville Lancelot Goddard was born in Barbados in 1905. He came to the United States to study drama at the age of seventeen and whilst touring with his dance company in England he developed an interest in metaphysics, after striking up a conversation with a Scotsman who lent him a series of books on the powers of the mind. On his return he gave up the entertainment industry to devote his full attention to the study of spiritual and mystical matters. After traveling extensively throughout the United States, Neville eventually made his home in Los Angeles where, in the 1950s, he gave a series of talks on television and radio, and for many years lectured regularly to capacity audiences. In the 1960s and early 1970s, he confined most of his lectures to Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. In his early lectures and books, Neville dealt solely with what he called The Law, the technique of creating one's physical reality through imagining. It is this portion of his expression that most closely accords with the teachings of the New Thought movement. In 1959 he began to experience what he called The Promise. In the latter part of the 1960s and early 1970s Neville gave more emphasis to The Promise than to The Law. One could use imaginal power to change one's circumstances, he said, but it would be temporary, "...and will vanish like smoke." He went on to explain that The Promise superseded The Law, claiming "Oh, you can use it [The Law] to make a fortune, to become known in the world, all these things are done, but, your true purpose here is to fulfill Scripture." After subordinating The Law to The Promise, he became as eager to hear accounts by those who had experienced The Promise, and sharing such accounts, as he had earlier of those with The Law.The Power of Awareness attempts to demonstrate how to use our mind to realize our wishes. As such, it is an important part of the larger New Though Movement, in which Neville holds a prominent place.

To Pray or Not to Pray?5
Neville's system is simple, easy to apply, and --- most importantly --- effective. Like many esoteric writers of his generation (the so-called "New Thought" movement), he frequently quotes the Bible to make his point. However, his point is usually 180 degrees removed from the traditional interpretation of the cited passage. Like another reviewer, I was initially put off by the constant references to "Holy Scripture". I kept asking myself why Neville felt the need to validate his system by appealing to authority. Once I got beyond my own mental hang-ups, I was able to appreciate fully what Neville was saying... and to apply it.

I'm now a big Neville fan, and have read several of his other books. But "Power of Awareness" is probably the only one you need to read. It lays out the entire system clearly and concisely.

By the way, anyone familiar with Israel Regardie (Golden Dawn) may appreciate knowing that he agreed with and approved of Neville's system ... but felt that most people lacked the simplicity and native imagination to use it as effectively as Neville was able to do. For such people, Regardie maintained that ritual work and a broader occult background was necessary.

As someone suspicious of ritual (talk about giving unnecessary deference to our religious heritage!) and tending to believe that most 'occult powers' are misunderstood manifestations of our own unconscious being, I much prefer Neville's approach.

The Law of Assumption -- this book could change your life!5
Congratulations! For you to be reading this review must mean that you're searching for something special. Perhaps you suspect that we have more control over our lives then the average person thinks. Well, if you read this book, it could change your life. It is simple and easy to read, yet deeply powerful. It's implications are incredible! In this book, Neville gives us the tools to understand and create all that we need or desire in our lives through the use of the law of assumption. Is it possible? That's for you to find out.

101 of Spiritual Life and Success...5
I truly believe that if I should require everyone to read but one book, this would be it. The author has said that he intented this book to be the simplest and easiest to apply that he has the power to make... and he has truly succeeded in writing such a great book.

The question on many people's lips is this: "I have read so many books, why should I read another?" Although you may be all done and read dynamo, this book is for you. It may not be as advanced as many other books Neville has written, but it certainly is the best guidebook to inspire, encourage and lift you up to the full potential by increasing your awareness of the power that can fulfill all of your dreams.

The special chapter on failure and what you can do in order to avoid failing is also something every serious truth student will find helpful.

Naturally, the only minus for this book comes from the fact that it mentions no word about the promise, but we can forgive that as the book was originally written in 1950s before Neville's more advanced years of teaching.

The author also provides a number of helpful exercises that you can use and in so doing, prove that this Truth is truly so. Don't just take my words for it, order the book and try it. I am sure that you won't be disappointed. You owe this much to yourself.
