Cool
This book is the former title 'Church Prophets' with a little more added to it. It is a very good book. It is a must have for prophets/pastors and those desiring to have a deeper comprehension and understanding of the prophet, the prophetic and distinguishing it from the occult. It gives practical guidelines that encourage proper protocol and parameters for safe operation as the pastor opens the members that they have rule over in the Lord to the ministry of the Prophet. It's full of revelation and i recommend it highly.
Charasmatic Hype
Warning: Most of this is going to sound very negative and unforgiving. While I'm not trying to attack the book or its author I must tell my honest impression of it from the standpoint of someone truly searching for answers on the subject. This is my personal impression...
While this book does contain alot of information regarding prophets and prophecy. Sadly, I was extremely disappointed in the book. I had high expectations. What I expected was a book about how someone is to determine if he or she is called to ministry and more specifically a prophet's ministry from a biblical standpoint in short, straight forward answers. How someone who is called to a prophet's ministry can interact with his local small church without disrupting the "order" of everything while explaining what is happening without scaring people. How to understand how to determine God's voice and visions from our own thoughts and others ideas. And, how to grow and mature in my walk with God spiritually.
BUT, What I found is a wealth of cluttered and idealistic information.I found the info to be either basic, subjective, relative, unorderly or heavily charasmatic. Before each chapter there is a list of things then the chapter contents are not in the same order as they are on the lists?? if that wasnt confusing enough some chapters didnt even contain the information listed in the preface list at all! It is as if you are reading several hundred extremely good short essays about prophets and prophecy that was dropped on the floor and completely out of order and never reordered properly. This book is likely a product of one of those "publish your own book" publishers and editing was not opted for.
However, I still found the book to be from one extreme to another, from either extremely basic information you can get from any Bible or Bible dictionary to far flung ideas of how to organize gigantic churches/schools filled with charasmatics calling themselves prophets. While this doesnt have to be a negative thing, I believe it should have been mentioned that seemingly over half the book is about building a prophet ministry out of an already huge church group of extremely charasmatic congregations with flowery ideas of ministry. The author also flexes her PHD overtly, peppering in uneeded "big words" everywhere to sound more like she knows what she is talking about. (yes I hope your reading this "Doctor" Paula). The truth of the matter is True prophets are not chosen or taught by men or women, even if they have a PHD. Jesus Christ, the premiere prophet of Christianity neither attended a seminary nor had a PHD. A True prophet is taught by the Spirit of God. I know that more than ever now.
so let me conclude.
If your trying to find out what a prophet is or means this is about as good as the description as you get in this book
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/prophet
If you want to be called a prophet and have others call themselves prophets and have a nice little school and ministry saying its "prophetic" you might want to get this book it has alot of good ideas for that.
If you are TRULY called by God to be his prophet don't bother with this book just grab Ye Olde Holy Bible and pray for answers.
(I'd like to add this is the ONLY book I have ever returned)
So I'd like to recommend (Who strangely enough is a Baptist minister)Charles Stanley's book "How to Listen to God". Its a very short, straight forward, and honest book of practical and biblical information about a two-way communication with God. If then, you come to realize you are a prophet, the rest should flow fairly smoothly as you enjoin your Spirit with God's because He truly has all the answers.
A must have for all Prophets
Not only is this book a must-have for Prophets, but
it will give other offices insight into what the function
of a Prophet is, how they operate and for what purpose.
If you are a Prophet, or want to understand Prophetic
language, you should also get her other book,
The Prophet's Dictionary.
